Is anyone using the Spektrum DX3S with Telemetry ?

I'm wondering how you mounted the speed sensor on the RC10? I used my body reamer and made a small hole in the gear cover so that it was just big enough for the sensor to go through and then made another small hole beside that so that light could go through. I tried it in my basement but it didn't really seem to work.

Any suggestions?

Also for the temp sensor, do you really just tape it to the motor?

As for the settings, what would be a good warning threshold for the temp on the motor? Its a brushless Castle 4600 kv setup. What about a good 'safe' battery voltage warning for the transmitter? Its a 4 AA battery setup and I'm using 1.2V NimH rechargeables.

Thanks in advance for the help!

It isnt a real reliable system. I ran it for about a week on an 1/8 buggy but never really looked at it much. It was very inconsistent and in the end, I pulled it out because it just didnt provide any good data. Guess none of that helps with your installation question, does it?

Actually it sort of does! I might just rip it out. The one thing I don't seem to have is the SPM1512 Telemetry RPM Sticker Sheet which I'm guessing you need to have a reflective surface of some kind on the spur so the sensor can read it.

The one key I read is you need to set the rollout properly so it can calculate everything based on that number.

I guess its one of those things that I'd like to try it out and get it working at least just to try it.

Yes, you do need a reflective surface. They just provide a small chrome like sticker. I placed it on the spur gear for my application. Any shiny surface will work for you.

Same here. I have it on my 1/8 OFNA. The temp and battery voltage works greats but I could never get the rpm sensor to work. It's still in there, I just don't use it. I was able to set the roll out without problem but the reflective silver dots didn't hold well for me.

I used CA for the reflective sticker.

I have it on my Ten-T, came stock with it.

It does work, and you do need the reflective stickers. I like the idea of using CA glue on them.

I can say that the speed and temp is close, I had it flying down a paved back alley this summer.

I used some Road Weapons on the black rims. My DX3S radio gave me a top speed of 68 kph.

I think it has gone faster since then, keeping a tune on a nitro engine is not my favorite thing.

I think it is something that will work for sure, just need to get it set up properly and maintain it.

The reflective stickers are a pain when mixed with nitro fuel.

Forgot to mention that the range of the telemetry is terrible as well.

I second that.

I never thought of that. I'll let you know what happens.

use a wire tie.
i usually run a modified venom temprature monitor on my brushed motors. they are normally for gas motors and have the thermocouple in a loop that is designed to loop around the head and slide in between the cooling fins. i simply cut the heat shrink off the sensor which is an axial type and bent it over to make it a "simulated radial type" and re-shrink wrap. then i wrapped a wire tie around the motor with the sensor right under the latch part of the tie and make it almost tight so i can slide it out for motor changes or cleaning, it works great.

Interesting. I got one of those temp sensors with my radio and I just ignored it since I don't have a nitro. But what you're saying is (if I understand you correctly), is that you essentially wrapped the sensor around your motor?

I have mine in between the heat sink and the motor.

Does anyone have an extra sticker sheet?
