anyone have a cup racer?

i got one on a whim to race on a carpet oval in a class dominated by traxxas 1/16 4wd rally cars.

it's the most insane chassis/setup i have ever seen. so overly complicated, it's awesome. i'm 7 hours into the build and haven't even gotten to the shocks yet.
(and i'm not slow by any means)
this car is a mini, 225mm wheelbase. there are so many parts it's insane. i wish i knew who designed it, it's got to be a brit. lol

if you want an interesting, fun, time consuming build, pick up one of these little 4wd's.

I love the looks of them. Been thinking of getting one just to play with in the road. That class sounds like it would be fun one to race though. They had a carpet track around here for a bit, but I don't think they run there anymore. I may have to ask around. Dirt oval will always be my favorite, but it would be nice to get a change from time to time.

I have 3 of them,,I love them, very good chassis its so adjustable its mind boggling and handle awesome,one of mine has mamba SCT 4 pole 3800kv with 3s batteries and it handles like a dream, here is pic of one of mine which is new built I just put a pic of it on another tread about the wheels which I think they look killer....

nice car tony. i'm thinking of a simialer paint scheme.

i got the chassis completed the other night and kind of set it up for oval, softer inside springs, wider outside offset.
it can't wait to run it.

now that it's mostly complete i think it will have it's way with the traxxas cars. the trx 1/16's are so light, the hpi is a brick and it will win the rubbing battle.
my m03 mini wins the rubbing battle too. lol nice, dense little cars.

i just fired my cup racer, it's too damn fragile to run on the oval. it's afraid of the wall.
the hinge pin braces are the softest alloy i've ever seen, and thin. i can't get through
2 batteries in a row without the car breaking.

so it's been fired and the replacement has been ordered, an abc genetic with an austin mini pickup body.

I'm surprised and disappointed to hear that. All the HPI stuff I have is seemingly unbreakable. Is there an aftermarket option for thr fragile parts? Maybe I'll hold off on my purchase.

save your money thumbs. the car is a joke. hpi missed the mark with this one, the intentions were good, but unless you are a flawless driver this thing will let you down.

it's fast but fragile. i really want to like it but i need something a bit tougher. too bad tamiya doesn't make a true 4wd mini built like the m03/m05.

i've heard great things about the abc cars, m03/m05 drivers seem to like them and that says alot to me.

last thursday there was another hpi car running on our carpet oval and it was having it's issues as well. i don't think i'll be buying another hpi product any time soon.

the abc just arrived, ordered friday, shipped from cali. i'm impressed!

the car is a tank compared to the cup racer. i can't wait to get it on the track.

What's so funny that you said its fired thats all,,I have a genetics also I got that one first its got a datsun sunny body on it I've never ran it though....

I have had one for a while, haven't run it yet. It is definitely an overly complicated design, especially the chassis. I don't know why they lower chassis plate isn't wide, and the battery mounted to that. It will just be a driveway running, so I'm not too concerned with durability.

I have a Slash 1/16, which is about the same size, and I'm wondering why we still run 'big' 540 motors and sub-C cell battery packs in smaller cars. I might try a HobbyWing 1/16 motor and ESC, with the small batteries from my Slash, see how the lighter weight affects things.

for racing i have found full size 540 brushless systems to be more efficient. they run cooler and have more tq.
the 380 sized systems seem to run hot quicker and don't have that same corner exit power as a 540.

for example i race against a bunch of trx rally cars, they are 380 bl powered and are actually alot faster (top end) then my 17.5 powered mini, but my mini smoke's them out of the corners and comes off the track much cooler then the 380 powered cars. not to mention the runtime difference, my 4000mah 2s compared to the tiny batteries they run in the trx rally cars.

if a 540 fits, theres no reason IMHO not to run one.
