I'm sure there is already a post somewhere on here about this but I wasnt able to find it. Can a run a mild brushless setup with a 6 gear transmission? And if so how hard is the 6 gear to get back into working order - parts availability, etc? Thanks for the help and sorry again if this topic has already been covered.

If you plan to stick with the 6 gear you can get the parts easily, however kind of pricey depending on what exactly you need to restore it of course. It might be less expensive to buy a parts car or transmission. You'll need full bearings for the transmission if you don't have them already.

Going to be running a 3200kv on 2s. I havent dug into the trans yet so I dont know what kind of shape its in. So you think it would be cheaper (or just better?) to just replace it if the current 6 gear is in rough shape? I would like to run a stealth instead but they seem to be pretty expensive on ebay.

6 gears are tricky to build. If done correctly, it should spin nearly as free as a stealth. Mine do Know that with the felt gaskets on the outdrives it will not spin as freely as the stealth.

The main problem is being sure that the idler and drive pivots are parallel. Otherwise, one side of the spline spins free and the other side binds. I would suggest replacing the old clips on the idler pivot as that is often the first failure, leading to trashed idlers.

i know this isnt the buy/sell forum, but if u need 6 gear parts, i got a ziploc bag FULL of used stuff ive pulled out of misc cars.

to run it, i would get some good diff rings and balls, and dremel down the gears or get some used gears. u can make metal gears by cutting the outdrives off and mounting up the metal gear.

The stealth is a better option, but you'll have drill holes in the chassis to mount it or swap to a newer chassis with the pre-drilled holes for the Stealth.

and theres always the 3 gear MIP tranny no drilling needed

Sounds like I'm just going to run the 6 gear I have. If it gives me trouble I will replace it with something else. I actually kind of like the idea of usine the original trans with new brushless stuff. I'm going to go through it this weekend and see how bad it is. Mikedeale I might take you up on those parts once I figure out what I need. I think the bst section would be a good sourse once I have enough posts on here.

Run the 6-gear and see how it is and go from there. Do make sure you have ALL the 6-gear parts are in there. I know that sounds weird like what the hell could be missing LOL, but I own 2 6-gears and BOTH were missing 1 little teflon bushing on the diff shaft. Both did not run right until I figured out what was missing.

If you don't have the bearings in the 6-gear, there's a thread somewhere here that lists the bearings & sizes for the 6-gear - this will be a must have 4-sure. Good luck

This car has definately seen some neglect so I wouldnt be surprised if there are some missing pieces in there lol. Its supposed to rain all weekend so it looks like this will be my bad weather project. Thanks for the headsup on the teflon bushing!

If you're missing one or the other teflon bushings the diff shaft will have up/down left/right play at the spur and cause the trans to bind internally - not good. If you have excessive left/right play only, you're missing one/or more of the diff washers or possibly worst case the thrust bearing.

I should just be able to take it apart and then go over it with the instructions right?

Yep, just look over everything according to the manual and you're good.
