Hello everyone

I've got two gold pan rollers, for restoring one car. One of the rollers is in terrible shape; some one did a bad job making their own stealth tranny holes, and there really isn't much to use for good parts.

Did AE anodize their chassis parts this dark? I apologize for the pic, as I only have a camera on my smartphone. IRL it doesn't look gold at all, and instead looks orange or a faded red (see below) Also, I need some advice on cleaning the edges of the front shock tower. I washed the part, but the edges have a dirty look to them, when held at a certain angle (see below) I tried to use a file to clean the edges up, but that black dirt look came right back. Is there another way to get rid of that?

Im not sure about the pan but as for the shock tower you could try a light sanding on the edges and then seal them with CA glue, Its hard to keep a light porous surface clean.

Heavy degreasers like simple green will loosen that stuff up and rinse out under the highest pressure water avail, and the darker tub is just a later tub ( say 86' ish ) as the color intensity fluctuated a bit.

I agree with using the degreaser, let is soak a little bit to loosen it up, then I use a really stiff toothbrush and scrub. I have done the lightly sanding thing as well, both work good for me.

The pans for both of the cars I have are close to the same colour as yours. As for the cleaning, I have the same issure so will ahev to give the simple green a try.

I used 'greased lighting' which comes in a yellow bottle. I haven't found anything it wont clean up. I use it on rc10, and my 1/5 scale gaser. It's gental on the skin and even used it on a ton of plastics, but grease and grime just wipes away with paper towel.

Yes, I completely agree about the Greased Lightning; I saw a Youtube video on how to de-anodize aluminum, and the guy used rubber gloves and an ultrasonic hot tank. I'll opt for the simple green, b/c it probably smells a lot better than any other degreaser.

simple green will work on the plastic parts, but it also affects aluminum, especially bare aluminum, so be careful when using it on the chassis if you decide to.

Good to know - thanks. I've used soft scrub on both the anodized aluminum and plastic parts, and I noticed that it can rub the anodizing off it's it's continuously scrubbed in one spot. I won't use either on the aluminum parts now . . .
