What other front arms will work for an OLD IS NEW build?

Post by 8rad »

I am gathering parts for my first ever RC10 build. Dynotech Klein has been done to death and RPM Worlds are like hens teeth.

So to all you RC10 experts. Are there any other long arms that will work. Even with a little modification?

RC10b3 front arms will work also....off course you'd still need the truck front end, just use b3 arms instead of the Klein arms...

lol those are two short. i tired them on mine and it was really short and you have to modify the bulk head and arms a lot to get them to work.

I've used stock long rc10CE arms, I had to dremel the truck bulkhead to fit the arms. Then I used the gt extended front axles, it was still about 1/4 inch shorter in width compared to stock arms and stock bulkhead. You can shim about another 1/8 inch. If you use different steering block carriers you can get more width. I cant say for sure, but i remember someone using b4 steering block carriers that are wider than stock. you an also modify the rim shave off the outer lip and glue your tires 1/16 inch out so the tire is fatter. You can also drill the rim out, glue the bearings to the rim, making an offset rim, and use a smaller nut to hold the rim on. :D

Ultima arms are 2.25" hinge pin center to h.p. center (the RPM worlds are 2.325 )- and they will mount on the truck bulkhead (might need a little clearancing). Using gt axles might get you where you want to be...

Another option might be the Losi Pro SE (swept front arms).

Hmmmm. Interesting. Ultima arms may be the way to go. Are there any aftermarket Ultima arms that arent impossible to find?

Anyone looked into TRX-1 arms? I just got a TRX1 that has AE wide arms on the front... and it's too narrow vs. stock ;)

You got me thinking Paul. What about Traxxas Bandit? Probably the same width as the TRX but with arms available at the LHS.

I am going to check on my way home tonight.

here is what I know. all info pertains to front arms.

B3, B2, too long to fit truck or buggy bulkhead.

klien arms, obviously the right size with truck bulkhead, no brainer.

ultima, jrx2, pro-se swept and any replacements thereof(rpm, andys) will fit on truck bulkhead and be close, some slight modding needed on either arm or bulkhead (shaving near pin or width adjustment). pro-se swept is closest to worlds arm, others will change wheelbase, less sweep. also need some adjustments to shock position, both lean angle and spacing from tower.

bandit is way too wide, near b2/b3 dimensions. custom bulkhead necessary. see current thread:
http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=22423

looking into custom works 3255 arm, it looks close but I have no dimensions.

trx1 arms I believe are also too long.

traxxas bullet arms are slightly wider than rc10 'long arm' by about 1/8th inch.

I've tried the JRX-Pro SE arms with the truck front bulkhead. You will need to grind down the bulkhead on each side to allow arm clearance. The arms are a bit wider than the RPM world's arms. If you use these arms with the B4 steering components, you do not need to use wide axles. The Pro-SE arms place the shocks quite far forward. You'll need to add a considerable amount of spacers to the upper shock mounting points to line the shocks up correctly. You will need to use the hinge pins from the JRX as well. A spacer will need to be used on the inner hinge pin since the JRX bulkhead and truck bulkhead have a different amount of material where the arms mount.

You can also use the standard JRX front arms or the Ultima front arms. Neither is swept back as far as the Pro-SE arms so your wheelbase will be longer. The sweep on the arms is necessary to keep the wheel height in relation to chassis as intended when the arms are level. The more front kickup the vehicle has, the more sweep the arms need. The JRX2 had a 20 degree kick. The Pro a 30 degree. The Pro arms are swept further back as a result. The RC10 has a 30 degree front kick.

Since the Ultima front arms are slightly longer than the JRX arms, if you run them with B4 front steering components, you'll be slightly wider than ROAR legal limits. Even with stock axles. You'd have to run stock RC10 steering components with those arms.

I have all of the above arms and have tried them all. Which ones did I finally settle on? The RPM worlds.
