JRX2 5 link help with data

Post by sgirouard »

I'm looking at trying to fabricate some 5 link suspension parts for a little project.

Does anyone know the distance (middle of hole to middle of hole) of the 4 links (not the turnbuckle).

I'm looking at possibly making aluminum links, similar to the Tamiya Avante or a crawler. I'm thinking of trying to eliminate the slop.

I'm going to use 1/4" aluminum tube, 6-32 threaded rod, 2 nuts and 2 rod ends.

I'm concerned that the links out to the wheels will be too wide and that I won't find a ball link to fit the rear hinge pins. But we'll see.

That should take care of some slop. Eliminating flex in the links at least.

i made a set like that for an x2 back when i was in my crawler phase. they're kickin around in the basement somewhere. i never built anything to put them on, and i don't think i ever got around to drilling the holes for the lower shock mounts.

How did it work Scr8p? As I've been sourcing the materials, I'm starting to thing the weight is going to be WAY too much. Only one way to find out but still.

i never had them mounted to a car. i tore down my x2 so i could measure the parts, reassembled it, then made the links later.

i used k&s 1/4" aluminum rod and dubro heavy duty 4-40 heim ends.

Not fully what you guys are talking about but I started with upper links on this car which has since been sold. You could have used some Dubro rod ends as well. I did not get many laps on this car before it was sold but it worked well.

if it wasn't for having to mount the shocks to the lower link, you could probably use tierods throughout the entire rear of the car and it have hold up ok.

Thanks for the link RCveteran.

I was actually thinking about using a tie rod for the top link like what you did in order to keep the weight lower. I've been thinking that maybe the heavy links won't necessarily be a bad thing because it's shifting more weight over the wheels and forward and lowering the overall center of gravity.

Only one way to find out :)

Does anyone *cough* Rick *cough* know the diameter of the inner and outer rear hinge pins?

Search-Fu is weak in me today. I just can't seem to find it.
