The composites in the gen 2 and the vla arms were rbetter then the gen 1, but the tranny with the 2.43 ratio ( gen 1 ) was way way better than the 2.5 something ratio gen 2. Then they went to the EA3 composites and back to the 2.43 tranny in the gen 3

Interesting question. Rick and I were talking about how many racers would take a xxx-cr and put a BK2 rear on it (xxx-cr had gen I and BK2 had gen II). So I was curious about this.
The only difference is in this situation, people were opting for the Gen II over the Gen I, why is that?

The BK2 with Gen2 Tranny was very different in how the rear suspension hinge pins were attached. They used alloy brackets at either end of the arms that lowered the COG . The same went for the MF1 & MF2 trucks.
It worked well on smooth fast tracks as they intended it too for the worlds at the time but was hard to get right on bumpy tracks. A lot of racers and myself found that it's jumping ability was not good either .
Here in Australia a popular mod was to mount the Gen one gearbox and hinge brace back on and the buggy was transformed. A little down the track Losi bought out the XXX cr which was the best of both with more flex in the chassis being EA3 composite construction. With VLA ( Variable Length arms) and the proven original XXX trany, Hinge pin brace arrangement . This version of xxx buggy the best of all i feel.
I would like to try the new 22 out one day.
