Thrust Bearing Replacement? [6-gear Transmission]

Post by teman »

I've replaced all bushings in the transmission with bearings and the old thrust is left. Is there a particular sealed bearing I can upgrade to?
I'm refering to the black bearing in my photo.

That bearing supports the counter rotation of the top 2 gears, so it really needs to be a thrust bearing. If the balls are still in good shape and not binding on your current one, it should be OK to use. They are not that hard to find if you need a new one.

how did you get the pressed on gear off? I'll be rebuilding mine soon and that is the part that makes me nervous. I don't want to break anything.

I think that's attached to the shaft, you'd have to buy a new 1. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. thanks.

The other one (not the one on the shaft in the photo) is pressed onto another part and has a bearing in there. Not sure how to get at that bearing and if its worth the trouble.

Ahh yes, that 1. Mine was stuck on pretty good too. I used a long socket and gently tapped it loose.
