Vintage Dust Buster Power!

Admit it, how many of you took apart a dust buster and put the motor in one of your rc cars? I know my friend and I did when we were teens and it worked fine in his Fox. I believe they were good old 540 motors, but the modern dust busters don't sound the same, so I assume they no longer use those motors.

I did it . Put one in my Hornet after the original black endbell Mabuchi died. It worked okay until I could save up for a Kyosho 480 G.

They did a DustBuster race at the Cleveland Champs in the late 70s or early 80s. The invites took their regular 1/12th scale race chassis and were each given a new in the box DustBuster, and they used the motor and batteries out of them in the race. I think they all used Bolink VW Rabbit bodies, too, if I recall correctly.

That kind of fun in racing is mostly long gone. People are too too wrapped up in how much money they have invested in their race kits than enjoying the hobby. Another reason why my racing hours have been critically limited over the last few years.

I have a different twist on that, my old (early 90's) Panasonic 4.8V cordless drill has been running on 4 Lithium 18650 batteries in a parallel-series setup. At 7.4V and 2.6AH, I charge it once every two months.

I once stripped a dust buster motor apart to see if it was the same.

To my surprise it was a 5 pole motor...

Well that was here. they could be different in spec's,,,

I recently found out that Power Wheels & other similar riding toys use 550 can motors. @ 12volts my daughters jeep burns out with her in it. with me in there it pulls wheelies! (of corse I have to sit farther back.) Supose to be 35 turns, but Im still going to try one in one of my RC's.
