Thanks for posting this Chris,
First scan, group picture, bottom right, it is Masami Hirosaka. His father Masaaki (light blue sweater) is standing behind him.
I think it was Masami's first ever Worlds. He ended up in the B-main if my memory is correct.
Back to first scan, top right picture, car #4, blue wheels, it is Mike Lavacot (Lavco chargers) RC12 who ended up 3rd.
The other black/blue car on top left is 9th place finisher, privateer José Rosas from France, driving a Corally, with Corally's proto MMS esc and Drastic motors. Sanyo were listed as batteries, but I think José was running SAFT batteries back then. José was the editor in chief for the french equivalent to RC Car Action, called Auto8 magazine. Not only he was there covering the race for the magazine, but he managed to make the Main! José made the A-main again 6 years later at '92 1/12 Worlds in Grand Rapid, Michigan, USA. Again on a Corally and again as a privateer. Not bad for on-road racing where equipement is a key factor.

thanks for those scans. great stuff! i love that era of racing.
it blows my mind why no U.S. rc magazines couldn't take pictures and coverage like that? why is it always another international magazine that covers the great races in great detail? only to find see them 20+ years later really sucks. lmao

I think the Japanese RC magazine always does the best report, especially on the big events. Even though, I can't read Japanese , I do feel that they are doing it with "heart". That is the most important for the readers.
Will scan the C car close up for you soon , GJW man !

Hard to believe that's '86.

Those things look like they would compete today.

Even the bodies seem somehow modern.

I think the 12L cars shown are pre-production prototypes that were handed out before the race.
Differences from final production 12L (from rusty memory):
X shaped upper pod brace
Less radius on diff side wheel hub
Chassis shape, had extended tabs for the rear body posts
Delta pivot balls on the T-bar
Graphite damper washers instead of molded nylon
Straight graphite front brace(?)
Tube style rear body posts (split too easy)
Du-Bro brass mount for rear pod spring, soldered to piano wire
Wire ran though aluminum post for rear pod spring
12i style front suspension blocks, 2 mounting holes instead of 3
I think I've got one of those Trinity Monster Horsepower T-shirts in my collection

Hey Chris, would you be able to scan those at a higher resolution? I'd love to see some good, clear close ups of those cars.

Retromodelisme has those race coverages from France magazines and 2 of these articles are even made by Jose Rosas.
