Oh and I did order a 'B' stamp chassis already drilled for the stealth. Can't wait to try it out.

Just keep the car under control with more speed/power...

My resto-rod with mamba pro and unknown Orion brushless motor (very fast) 6 gear tranny:

Couple questions for you:

How much weight do you have in the front?
What kind of steering servo is that? It's so small
What kind of wheels and tires are you running?
What are the specs on you battery?

The weight was 4 squares (28 grams or 1 ounce) was to keep the nose down in the street from doing wheelies.

Blue Bird short servo, I dont remember the number on it, 509 I think.

B4 wheels/tires, did all the resto rod mods to it originally.

I was using a 5000 - 35C at the time :)

Silly question maybe, but where do you get the lead weights?

As for the battery, is that 5000 mah Lipo? How many volts? ie. 2S or 3S?

The lead weights were from a local wheel shop, just the stick on kind for full size car wheels. The battery was a 2S lipo (Reedy).

The Trinity motor is likely a 27 turn single wind ‘stock’ motor. Guess based on the endbell being held on by the crimped tabs. Modifieds generally have the endbell attached by 2 screws. Thinking the same for the other motor, don’t see any screws.

Of the speedos I would go with the Tekin, unless you want reverse. The Tekin appears to be 410S, sport version of the 411P, but still a very capable unit. They will still service them too (at least they would a few years ago, after the management changes).

Agree the receivers should be interchangeable, assuming both are on the 75MHz band, never noticed much difference myself. (Have same Hitec and Futaba I believe)

Not familiar with the Hitec servo, from memory I think the Futaba S148 has a speed rating of 0.22s, torque was in the mid 40s oz-in. The 148 was one of Futaba’s standard servos for many years, nothing special, but should be fine for general playing around in a buggy.

Stick on lead weights should be available at most any good hobby shop. (Cranky old guy alert: Please handle and dispose of lead responsibly. Use brass if you can)

Dave, thanks for the reply! I did try the Tekin and it does still work but my son wants reverse (and I would too) so I will likely just wait a bit and buy him an inexpensive / used ESC at some point.

The Lightspeed motor is definitely faster than the Trinity, but just by a little bit. The Trinity is also faster than the stock motor, again, just by a bit.

I installed the stealth tranny today and the smaller spur dud make it slower in top end. I was amazed at how quiet it was! Question: how do you adjust the nut to get optimum traction? If it's too loose the car doesn't move.

So here are a couple of update pics. My main basher (which is the first car in this thread) now has modern 2.2" wheels from JC Racing UK, and Dirt Hawg tires, the aforementioned Castle setup, RPM arms front and rear, stealth, bunch of other stuff. It's currently in pieces as you can see awaiting newer shocks, and aluminum shock towers front and rear (got tired of the front vintage ones always breaking!) Also, the roller that originally had the red front wheels is ready to go with a new body that just needs to be mounted and now has fresh rubber and 2.2" wheels as well. I have a used ESC coming for it.

Some more updates. I want to thank everyone for their help and patience with all my questions and I'm trying to pay it forward by helping the new guys as they arrive here!

Here is my runner - still need to build the front threaded shocks and paint the new body (so I won't even show the old one, lol)

My son's runner - its been really great, just some small stuff here and there that's broken and its pretty stock. It needs a new rear wing kit and I have to figure out a better way to mount the LED lights but otherwise its good to go.
