when did the 5-link arrive at LHS's

I was talking with a fella at our local Sunday morning R/C bash session... I had one of my 5-link Jerks out there, he went on to say that the JRX-2 was his first competitve R/C, and that he got it when they first came out... "in 1990..."(???)

I suggested that they were available earlier than 1990. I myself got one as a kid when it was the newest thing at my LHS, but, I don't remember exactly when that was - my best guess would be for my Birthday in September, 1988.

Question:
I know some of the JRX-2 boxes say "1987 Champion", but, can anyone give some info on when the 5-link was readily available at an average LHS?

I believe that the JRX2 was available in 1989 and the JRXT was available in 1989.

As a kid I used to go to my grandparents house in the Iowa countryside every summer. That lasted until my grandfather died in 1990. I had the JRX2 running up there for one summer which had to be 1989. I bought it while up there the previous year. It was brand new in the hobby shops and it was one of the first ones that Hobby Haven in Des Moines had gotten in. That was summer 1988. I had an RC10 up there all in '87 and '88 and I remember looking at the new box next to the RC10. I wasn't allowed to start building it until we got back home.

Jrx2 Was available in 1988. Here is a pic of original box. You can see that the sticker on the box says ROAR National Champion 1988.

JG made that front mount. They are still on ebay pretty much all the time. I plan to get one for my Jrx Pro soon. It seems it would be better to shave off the bodymount that sits on he front shock tower and use a JG mount.

You dont have to shave off the mount, they bolt right on

I meant the bodymount on the shocktower. it would stick through the body if you didnt shave it down.

IF I remember correctly, this could have been at the 1988 NORRCA Nationals (the first) in 1988 - R & R Hobby in Quincy, IL. Notice the Associated shocks; each car was a bit different and they were trying all available shocks in an effort to arrive at the 'best' shock; which history tells us was their own design.

This national was also somewhat noteworthy since I believe Joel Johnson was DQ'd for being under weight with his Ultima - after winning convincingly!

Where's Deiter when you need him??? :)

No, it was the Roar 2wd offroad Nats in Antioch. Jack Johnson was not DQ'd at this race but he did hack Lett who was TQ, sending Lett all the way back to last early in the race. Lett did go on to win in the Mod class.

Mine came with that box. Unfortunately, I no longer have the box, but I have the car :-).

I also lost most of my original shocks after I added Associated shocks.
