Railey Racer Replica

Post by railey72 »

Finally getting around to a project I have wanted to build since I got back into RC. It's a replica/tribute to the RC10 that I raced as a kid in the late 80's. I lived in Southern MN and we raced at a skating rink in the winter and at a local guys track in the summer. The second pic is racing on ozite at the skating rink. Basically just lowered the suspension and put on a set of foams to race in the winter. The last two are practicing at the outdoor track.

I miss dirt tracks! When I was a kid, we'd make tracks wherever we could. We had one that doubled as our bike track. It was in a vacant lot with trees that now has a house on it. These hard packed clay tracks just aren't as fun to me. It's way too easy to setup a car for them.

Pics of the project coming soon. The original changed slightly from the time the photo was taken. Unfortunately it was sold off along with all of my RC and BMX stuff(really wish I still had my ripper looptail and pro racer as well) shortly after I turned 16. Basically a stock RC10 with a Raceco (thanks scr8p for helping me remember the mfg) graphite and foam sandwiched chassis, Losi bell cranks, dubro turnbuckles, dubro ball ends, lateral battery position and ball bearings. Eventually all of the white parts were dyed blue. The buggy was partially inspired by this article in a Competition Plus mag from 1987. The replica portion of the build will be to use the same chassis and stock components. The tribute portion will be to add more of the high dollar lightweight parts that I wanted as a kid but could not afford.

The entire Comp Plus article can be seen here: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=8829&hilit=lightweight+rc10

So here is what I have so far. Basically done but I still need to finish the electronics and get a body painted up. It has titanium hinge pins and turnbuckles, JG ball ends, aluminum dog bones and all aluminum hardware. Shock towers are from Composite Craft. The motor is the same modified Trinity I raced with bitd. Still looking for some orange Race Prep connectors for the battery and motor connections. Also, I need to do a little work on the steering servo location. Mounted in existing holes right now and little far to the outside of the chassis.

Cool, gets me thinking about whether I could recreate my old car. I like the blue on yours.

I'm with flipwills on this. That blue looks great, and contrasts well with the black chassis.

Looks great. Hope you enjoy this car as much as the car you owned as a kid.
