Richmond is probably covered. I'm no expert on this service though. I looked into it a while back, but E'ville is not covered so I abandoned the thought...

If you want to hold on to your Verizon email address until you get settled, they should be able to convert you over to a dial-up Internet account. With that, you could still connect via WiFi at a Starbucks or something or use a phone line as a last resort.

One of the reasons why I tell clients not to use the email address their ISP gives them is because goodbye service, goodbye email address.

Yeah, I regret not using gmail right from the start. Regardless of anyone's opinion of gmail, it's right there with you wherever you go.

Long before gmail, there was hotmail & yahoo mail. ;) Any free-mail should work just fine no matter where you are, as long as you have working internet.

Yep, the guy who built my first computers set me up on hotmail and am glad he did. Been with them since 95(?) or so and have had at least 10-15 different ISP. But like was mentioned above Verizon can set you up with dialup just about anywhere you go. From there you could setup any free email account and have it 'forwarded' to your new account. Some call it importing from another account and you could have it exported from your verizon email until you get all your contacts updated with your new email addy and not miss too many emails. Just an idea anyway.

Who else here remembers when you could only get a Gmail account if someone referred you, and you could only refer 5 or 6 people if you had a Gmail account? LOL Now everybody and their Grandma has a Gmail account.
