Will the Re-Re Madness ever stop?

Now I do enjoy some of the re-re's, but will it ever stop? It only bothers me as where is the originality and creativness? It's like all these movie re-makes. Can't we come up with something new? I guess for Tamiya it is good business sense, whereas new stuff costs money and isn't good biz sense. I wonder if any of it has to do with licensing fees in today's day and age?
Isn't this the second time they've re-re'd the Cosworth?

While I was at the 2007IFMAR championships I met the guy from tamiya responsible for licensing. Tamiya actually hired a westerner to work for them in the Japanese headquarters and do the talking on this subject. Unfortunately I lost his businesscard long ago, or I'd given i his contacts for you to ask

leave it to the greedy americans (most, not all) to make things complicated.

As long as Tamiya's making money off of people wanting to over-pay for these kits, it's a working business model.
I had a private laugh to myself about someone building a Grasshopper to make it a "shelf-queen". Something about that--a shelf-queen Grasshopper--just seems
wrong. It was hugely popular, cheap, simple. Hardly rare BITD and far less so, now, with the re-re's. Nothing about it was 'queenly' whatsoever.
Anyway, just my ramblings. Please forgive.

It's all in the eye of the beholder, Grasshoppers were many peoples first RC and as such hold a very special place in their hearts. I have one that I'll be building for the shelf, not because it's rare / valuable or any other number of measures that some collectors like to define a shelf queen by but because it's part of my history and really I can't think of anything less interesting to me than running one
You're forgiven
Re re's bring them on, any legal action that allows those to acquire something they desire works just fine for me

i have often thought of getting a re-re hopper for the shelf. it's rc history.
but then again nothing ever stays on my shelf and i already have a cool modded hopper/hornet as a runner.
i like most of the re-re's, as long as they are the classic tamiya off roaders. onroad re-re's just aren't exciting to me.
i'm still waiting for a wild one.

RC10s and Bruisers aren't rare at all, look how many shelf queens have been made out of those vehicles. I've probably seen at least 10x as many RC10s as Grasshoppers.

If grasshopper prices climb like RC10 prices than expect the grasshopper floodgates to open.

I'm gonna start stockpiling now for when the Grasshopper prices top out at a buck-fiddy. I'll be raking in the jack!

It seems to me the only people that make noise against re-re's are those with alterior motives.
What I mean simply is who cares if a stranger half way across the world gets to fill his apetite by purchasing a re-re kit that might have been well out of his price range previously.
Nobody is saying that the purist collector needs to go out and buy the latest crop but why should this mean 'joe average' cant get access to a buggy that he/she has dreamt of half their lives.
Ultimately it seems 'investors' in the old gear that will lose with the market now being split, but ofcourse anyone that does this as an investment needs to get their head read.

We can only hope that the re-re plague drives some new younger blood into rc. Perhaps a father/mother takes their kid to a hobby shop and tells jr that they owned a Tamiya Lunch box/grasshopper/frog/etc back in the day. The little kid gets interested in what their parent owned and begs for a re-re like dad had for their birthday.
Unfortunately, I suspect the majority of re-re's are 30-40 somethings who buy one, build it and place it on a shelf never to be used like the original.

The rere debate.
I have a few rere Tamiya buggies. My motivation to buy them was that when I was growing up most of my mates got a Hornet, Frog or Hotshot. My folks couldnt afford anything as expensive as that so i got a Tandy Jeep that could hardly turn and was lucky to go faster than a snail.
So I was envious of my mates with real rc cars.
When the rere's came out I was very happy.
Most of my Rere cars get driven, afterall thats why I wanted one bitd.
The only exception is my Buggy Champ.

Just my 2c

Tamiya . They have been around for what decades it seens. I myself have the Sandscorcher re release just do to the fact that the originals are way out out my price range. Will the re-releases ever stop who knows . My first car was the grasshopper how many millions of those produced who knows. Has tamiya ever produced a buggy to compete with the rc10 or losi? Tamiya is great at producing scale rc cars, entry level rc cars, And the re releases that we all grew up with. I think tamyia is big enough to take a hit on what doesn't sell and they move to what sells. As far as new designs with the latest tech. have not seen much.
