TCP Runner/Racer

Thanks to this fantastic site, I have been able to pick up a TCP in great condition.

I didnt take photos of it during the tear down (literally just wiped it clean and used hex hardware if I had the right bolt in the box).

Plans:

To build a competent racer, I have 2 CE buggies built up to race, this TCP and next (sometime this year) will be a Losi JRX 5 link car.

I will use B4 wheels on all 4 cars, just to save some $$ when I hit the track. When I race, I will practice with a couple cars to see which one is "feeling" better that day and run it in heat 1, I may try a different car in heat 2, and use the better of the cars in the mains. I do plan on running mostly stock (17.5 & 27T) but occasionally mod (I plan on picking up a 10.5 or 13.5).

The car was sans shocks when I got it, but had read on how Slash Big Bore shocks drop right on...well SCT shocks are SCT shocks (size wise), and I had a set of RTR Blitz shocks collecting dust. Quick oil change and 4mm travel limiters in all 4 and they fit like a glove. I may put another 1mm in the rear shocks, especially for smooth tracks, the travel looks a bit much.

I opened the tranny to find it in excellent shape, and test fit an AE spur on there...fits with no modifications. I had a set of Losi front axles (JRX series/LXT) and a set of AE inline alloy axles, both fit easily, but I opted for the Losi front axles, they were just a bit more snug in the steering carrier.

Here are some pics, with a 27T air supply (Tsunami Racing?), Cyclone C2 Speedo, Futaba 9401 and Spektrum Receiver (out of my Blitz). Borrowed the wing off my AE car :)

Next:

Gear Cover, new upper deck, brushless (when I get more money than brains).

Anyone fit a current Bandit body onto the TCP? I wonder if the JConcepts body for the Bandit fits?

TBG has re-pops of the triumph body.
I put a used one on my TCP: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=18468

(Still have an original triumph with full nose that will look way better, but that's not painted yet)

Nice build! Do you have part#'s for the Losi front axle conversion? I'm wanting to do the same thing on my TRX-1 since I have a B4 and tons of wheels already.

BTW, I have a NIP upper chassis deck for the TRX-3/TCP. PM me if you're interested.

Losi Front Axles A-1012. The standard front axle from the JRX2, Junior 2, JRXT, Junior T, JRX Pro, JRX Pro SE, LXT (maybe the GTX & NXT too). Should be easy to find.

I like the Triumph body on there, but there is something about the stock/bandit style body I am linking...I need to see the JC body in hand, I think it will make the car look too modern.

Gear cover is worrying me now, I did a search last night (well @ 2 am this morning) and came up empty. I will try again today.

Harry...PM inbound!

Don't know about that jconcepts body personally but a traxxas bandit body will fit with some creative trimming of the front of the body. Bandit is about 3/4" longer overall in the body than the TCP but I'd be willing to bet the Jconcepts would be just as easy to trim up to make it work.

Wow, nice to see the old chassis on its feet again. I sent you a PM for bodies, etc.

Regards,
Maurice

PS: Being that the buggy still has its registration code, I wonder if they will let you register it

Better yet, will Traxxas still honor their zero-breakage suspension parts guarantee?

If you check my build you'll see it's possible to use RB5 CVD's. And the good news for you is: there's special axles for the RB5 that'll let you mount B4 rear rims

So you could have B4 rims all around the car.

That is right where I am headed also :)

Thanks. I was gonna ask about the rear B4 wheels. I tried mounting them on my TRX-1. I had to drill the rim out a size or two in order to fit the Traxxas axle, but when I tightened the axle nuts down, there was some binding issues.

I'm gonna have to look into those RB5 axles.

So, in Ed's TCP thread jwscab posted about maybe using some losi parts out back to convert over to the 3/16 axles....got my juices flowing.

First things first...pull a set of losi sliders/axles/carriers...

Looks close enough :)

after doing that comparison, I abandon my idea of having the stock axles turned in a lathe...they arent long enough for B4 wheels.

So...how to use the Losi parts with Traxxas parts...sliders dont match inside, not even close, but the cross pin is similar...

Image

But the Traxxas is a bit smaller, so I find a drill bit to open up the Traxxas parts....right before I drill, I just look it over a few more times...I decided not smart to weaken it with a larger pin hole.

Then I look at the Traxxas pin in the Losi sliders...damn, way loose. Then I think of what some onroad cars use...pin cushions. Could it be that easy? Answer...YES!!
