Paint blead

Post by greazy »

What is the best thing to clean up a few small spots of blead through ? I just painted the first color on my boys slash body and got a couple of spots, dont want to start the second color until I try to clean it up a bit.

I've had success gently scraping away the paint bleed with an X-acto knife. The resulting fine scratches aren't usually visible when covered with the next color of paint.

Bingo.

Or a cotton swab lightly dampened in denatured alcohol works if you have a very steady hand and the bleed area is large. Happens on EVERY taped paint job, so don't feel too bad about it.

X2 on the exacto and X1 on the denatured alcohol. The alcohol also works well with a cotton ball to remove overspray if you are doing a body that doesn't come equipped with film.

A fresh X-acto blade works great in my experience.

First: lightly score along the desired paint line (e.g where the tape was) in order to facilitate the excess paint coming away from the paint-line cleanly.

Second: Gently scrape the excess paint, always scraping *away* from the paint that you want to keep.

Third: Final wipe with solvent such as denatured alcohol or brake fluid to ensure that all of the paint dust / flakes are removed. They can be tough to see ... until you seal them in with the next coat of paint.

Fourth: Quick wipe with paper towel with 409 or other cleaner-degreaser to remove the fingerprints, etc, left behind by your cleaning project.

Painting always scares me off. I always seem to get those droplets in my bodies and the worst part is trying to solve the problem where I always end up messing it up even more!
