I want to hit 20

I recently aquired an RC10T from ebay in great shape. It included a stock motor, Reedy DS Spec and a Futaba servo. I bought a Novac 610-RV ESC and a pair of 6-cell 3Kmah NiMh battery packs. The RC10T is geared 16/87 at the moment. I was curious as to the top speed so, I strapped on my handheld Garmin GPS and away we went. The most I could get out of it was 17.9mph. Is that about right? I switched out the motor with a Epic Speed Gem 2 (blue can) with a fresh battery pack, same gearing and got 17.4mph. Is that about right? I'm not attempting to get top speed, I was just curious thats all. Have a great day gents.

Maybe check the diff and clutch setting and then increase the size of the pinion.

Oh, and check your throttle settings on your Tx and on the esc ( if you have settings on them).

Thanks Shane. Both items have been checked. Just for grins, I installed a 16/54 which came from an RC10 buggy I won recently. I didn't check the top speed with my gps, but from the looks of it, I think I broke the 20mph thresold. The acceleration was good and high speed was very good. Again, this is with a Trinity Epic Speed Gem 2 (blue can) and a slightly drained battery. I'll check it with the GPS tomorrow and charge up my battery pack. I'll check back with you manana. Thanks gents.

P.S.
I'm reliving my youth all over again. My GF says I hit my mid-life crisis. I tell her, "I haven't even peak yet babe!"

you can do all the speedo and gearing fiddling you want, it's all in the motor (wind and condition - has it been trued lately? New brushes?) and the batteries (which brand/gen? How old?) you're using...

if your trying to get the most top speed out of it, you can't gear the thing like an offroad truck.
