Topcat project.

Hi,

I am working on a mid motor Topcat project I have nicknamed "Topcat X". I have cut the chassis from aluminium and am currently in the mock up stage. Some things I am playing with are connecting the front rockers with turnbuckle links, new geometry rockers and LiPO saddle packs.

One thing I am struggling with now is the rear suspension arms. With the shocks on the rear I cannot simply flip the arms because the toe in is molded in the arms, so the mounting angle would be really severe to maintain the geometry.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have been thinking about the X6 rear arms or maybe Cougar SV but I am not sure how difficult that would be to retrofit.

I will post pics soon.

You could use these U1135 Rear Wishbones - Short Wheelbase (pr)

Or the original ones U294C from the procat .

These were used in the past for shocks on the rear .
if you need some , i got multiple sets available

Thanks Jeroen,

I will see what I have. I am worried that mounting to the rear of the arms will weaken them too much. I had a pair of works arms snap where I screwed in the roll bar stud once.

The Cougar SV rear arms also are swept up at the hub and hing pin mount as well. Not being level may pose a problem for you if you go that route as well.

Not only that but they mount differently to the hubs. I will be using Cougar 2 hubs. To use SV arms I would have to use sv hubs and they would not fit with the axles. The hinge pin is a different diameter as well.

I am going to see if the Procat arms work.

Hi 8rad,

I think I'd like to try something similar you are doing with your Topcat, but with my basher Cougar. How did it went with the Procat rear arms?

On the Topcat you adjust the toe in by putting washers between the wishbone pivot blocks and the alloy chassis. Is it possible to compensate for the moulded toe by adding more spacers / filing some material off the pivot blocks?

Awesome sounding project BTW, I can't wait to see photos of it.

Cheers,

Ian

While browsing tamyaclub, I encountered this: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=51714&id=3346
It is hard to say anything sure about the rear toe-in, but the rear wheels seem to point straight enough :) The rear end seems to be somewhat fragile and unstable. Perhaps an top deck is needed for Cougar / Topcat midmotor? Also what to do with the chassis pan? I have tought just cutting the part normally under the motor off. For this project I have two very scatched and bent pans I could just chop shorter for mid motor conversion.
