scgt2 build

Post by Rusty-Racing »

Hey Guys. Im getting started on a scgt2 build. Just thought Id start a thread about it. I picked up a few gt2's last friday at associated's warehouse sale for dirt cheap. So I thought Id build a short coarse nitro truck. Did some looking and found a chassis kit on ebay but its fiberglass. I plan on running the snot out of it and dont want to spend 75 bucks a pop for everytime i bust a chassis. So i made a template and cut out my own chassis and top plate out of some remnant aluminum I had. I lucked out with it being the exact same thickness as the stock chassis. i have the main chassis done so far. now im working on the upper plate. I should finish it tomarrow and start shopping for some 3/4 inch stand offs for the 2 chassis plates. the chassis will be powdercoated black with (hopefully) blue standoffs and some blue ft items for some accents.

I know that it was a little while ago, but did you ever get this thing together?

I have a new built RC10GT Team from over 10 years ago, never run, and I am looking for inspiration to transform it into a "new old school" sc truck ... brushless. I'd love to see how the standoffs and top plate came out.

It was exactly one day ago  You must be faster than most

What type of aluminum is it? I ask because they all have different good and bad properties-and even though you went though the work of cutting and drilling it, if it is the wrong type you have a lot more work to do for nothing-

Yeah i just started this yesterday give me a week or so and ill have some pics of the truck close to being done. As far as the aluminum. i dont know what this peice was but its definetly stronger then the stock chassis. it has little to no flex when i try to flex it and the stock one has some give. I picked up the chassis stand offs today from my hobby shop. Im using 3/4 inch axial ones. they were 7 bucks for a pair. So far the stand offs are the most expensive part since the truck was only 10 bucks hehehe.

Damn Rusty...you've been busy. Bring that thing over and we can shoot some pictures with the wife's "real" camera and post them up.

Are you using your dremel and making the cuts freehand? Or did you make a jig of some type?

All free hand buddy you know how i roll. I used the old chassis for a template at first on paper then transfered to the aluminum. then i clamped the old chassis and new one together and drilled all my holes. couldnt really do that with the upper chassis so i had to measure it all out and test fit and shave as i went along for proper fitment. this thing is comming together awsome. all the fab work is done so now i just need to disassemble and get it coated.

You did that chassis free hand???? I think it's great!

Too bad you sold it! Are you going to get a SCGT now?
