JRX2 & #5100 Thorp Diff Gears question...

Hello all,
I picked up a Thorp #5100 Diff Gear set and was wondering if anyone else had experience with them. When I tried the stock diff balls in the Thorp diff gear they seemed very loose in their holes. Also, which diff lube is best for this Thorp mod, the original purple stuff or something else? Just wondering before I commit to a rebuild.
Thanks guys.

the thorp diff gears are aluminum, so the holes are straight through, and the balls are not held in place like they are on the stock plastic gears.
I use the newer, less sticky diff lubes. the original stuff feels more like glue than grease.

Yea, their really loose and fall out of the holes......was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this. I figured it was correct, and since they're aluminium u wouldn't want the balls snug, but just checking.
I still have almost a full container of the original purple stuff, so I think I'm gonna continue to use it in my JRXT rebuild since the manual emphasizes that u use it specifically, yet sparangly (even tho my old A3006 gear melted/fused to the center of the male gear next to it years ago, before the bearing diff gear kit came out and fixed that overheating problem).
Thanks for the info!

how i wish i can get hold of that Bearing gear Kit (Losa3020)

(Found one yesterday at this
http://www.hobbyetc.com/item.cgi?part_id=57635 ).....
had one before (Thorp 5100) before i sold the kit

but would this hold up with the current BL system? even if its allu already?
or a LOSA3020 (bearing gear kit) is better? I also remember that if you use this gear (Metal) you should change the metal top shaft as it will chew up the gears very easily.
I found this site but not sure if this is a good site or waiting would be the killer. a Retro tranny cost so much..... check the prices.

Try these guys:
http://www.slipstreamrcshop.co.uk/retro/products.php?cat=102&pg=2
They have 13 of those A3020 in stock, I've ordered Losi stuff from them before and never had a problem.
PS You should never use metal-to-metal gear combos UNLESS the manufacturer calls for it........the Thorp top gear & shaft should always
be paired with the Thorp aluminium diff gear kit IMHO. That way you have a nylon/delrin top gear riding on the Thorp alum gear, not the stock brass top gear riding on the Thorp alum gear.

I keep hearing about this A3020 kit... What is the A3020 bearing gear kit? Does anyone have a picture of it?
Basically, I stripped my diff gear and I'm wondering if there's an upgraded part that would be more durable. I'd really like to run a LRM and brushless system.

Jun:
Thanks for the great pictures. How is that 3020 different than a 3006, which was the original diff gear in the LRM?
Given that the 3020 is plastic, not metal (like the 5100), wouldn't the 5100 be a "better" part, if you can find it?
Also, I looked all over but I couldn't find the listing on ebay... I even searched completed listings...

Personally iwhen i had the 5100(thorp) gear i only used the metal diff gear and did not use the diff halves, well that was with using the vintage brushed motor, but. Havent tried using it with the newer BL motor,as for the original vs the 3020, the diff is the bearing on the diff, this allows the friction to be illiminated(or lessen)as compared to the orig diff which was prone to melting when not set properly.
Just keep on a look out for the 5100 ,not too lng ago i saw one and it went for $30 which i thnk is reasonable.
Cheers!!
