Building 5 link vintage racer - which chassis?

Post by RCveteran »

I am going to build up a 5 link runner to try out at a vintage event. What's the consensus; should I go with the longer jrx pro chassis with the 30 degree lip or stock Jrx2 chassis? I have some beat up ones of each that will work.

i'd say that kind of depends on the track layout.....short technical course, I'd go with the shorter jrx2 chassis.

long sweeping courses, I'd run the longer pro chassis....

personally i like the original short chassis with the 5 link. the car steers very well with it. the long chassis slows down the steering too much for my liking.

Do you feel the H-arm cars benefit from the longer chassis or same situation?

I believe the strengths of the original 5 link were that it was better balanced for choppy and rough tracks, so again, make your decision based on track conditions.

Sounds good, how do you guys feel about the long shocks and JRX-T shock tower on a buggy, I know this was a popular mod back in the day and I could go either way. The long shocks in front and 5-link certainly give you way more suspension travel than modern buggies and the outdoor tracks around here tend not to be groomed all that well.

I would like to see the original jrx2 using some new shocks like the bk2 or cr. The shocks nowadays are way better handling...in my opinion, I like the losi shocks better then associated.

the old losi shock bodies are still fine. i have mine outfitted with xxx cartidges and they are as smooth as any modern shock. maybe not as smooth as a coated body but pretty darn close.

I have done the same thing with the new cartridges. They are indeed very nice and leak free.

have you guys noticed a change in the cartridges? I seem to recall the old ones had an outer o-ring, but some new ones I got from horizon look like they are just tapered to seal. Was I seeing things or is this real? And is that OK for the old bodies?

I would go with the shorter original chassis with the T shock tower and longer shocks. Great handling chassis, properly set up with modern tires is still pretty darn quick!
