I tried one back in my race days when they first came out,it looks kewl as chit but its not race worthy.......mine had a built in tweak,wasn't flat.
It will look so much better with some nice minty white suspension etc...
If you bought it for a investment,build it up and make it worth more.
or you could just leave it in the package hanging on the wall

that's a tough one. it's really up to you,though. it would be cool to find another one, then you could build one and still have one in the pack.

nip, doesnt seem to mean a lot in the RC world unless it's a whole vehicle... I'd say build it into a queen if you want to keep it mint... I'd make it inot and occasional carpet runner

i've read that alot of them were tweaked, and that alot of them broke. from looking at this one, i cant see any evidence of it being tweaked.

i just dont know. when i made the trade i had all intentions of building it, but now that i got it and its so precious in the package i'm kinda scared to do it...

i'll just keep it in the wrapper until i get some other projects finished up, maybe by then i'll have a different opinion on whether to build or not. i thought they were carbon fiber, but this one is graphite. do any of you guys know if a carbon fiber one was made? i remember awhile back there was an outfit in germany that was making them, but i forget if those were carbon.

i wish it was stealth-ready. if i did build it i would like to just use a worlds car as a donor rig.

even if i dont build it, i'm HELLA stoked to have one now.

That's a tough one. That may be the last one of those in still in the package. But, it would look so much cooler built up. Tough choice. If it were mine, I'd probably build it up. That is, after I found a choice selection of the illest RC10 aftermarket parts. MIP tranny, or maybe a Hyperdrive, those rare CNC'd arms, can't remember the maker, aluminum knuckles, Technacraft gold and silver wheels, a mint Novak T-1X, a mint vintage mod motor. It would have to be a car that would have been worthy of an article in RCCA back in the day that would have been titled something like "Ultimate RC10" or something.

You definately have to build it. What's the point of keeping it in a package on the shelf??? I agree with Melvin though, build it with parts worthy of it's rare status.

Graphite is more a composite material. Carbon Fiber more of a layered fiber. My RC10 tub here is Carbon Fiber. See the small ripples on the sides?

P.S.. I agree with a previous poster that many of the vintage RC10 parts don't diminish in value if you actually build a shelf queen with other rare parts... but when a part is highly rare as these tubs are, they retain their value more leaving them in the package. Take your MIP 4WD kits. Definitely worth more in the package than on a built car.

i know the suspension arms on your rig are barts parts, but with the rest of the aluminum components were they custom made by you?

btw, my fusion graphite chassis also has the 'rippling' on the sides.

I believe our chassis are made by the same company as I have never seen nor read about any other company that made a full tub. Your tub most likely is CF. It's just that the terms graphite and CF are used so interchangeably.

Most all the aluminum parts are custom (yes, by me) except the wheels (Technacraft) and in this case the arms (Barts). I switched the arms I initially made with the Barts because I had originally made mine for one of my RC10 DS cars (they are shorter). As it turns out, I got the Barts arms from Ray (Dent) when I accidently found his page as I was researching some things for my Lotus Esprit. Turns out he runs a Lotus Esprit web site and just by chance found his sprinter site and saw the arms for the RC10 there.

I fabricated the rear bulkhead, front suspension blocks, rear suspension blocks (on this model the tranny as well) and one or two smaller items. I had GPM revise the hubs for me since they already made them in a slightly different dimension for a later model RC10.

Dang Hoopty, another awesome score. I guess this solves your problem of wondering if you should built that other one.

My understanding of the difference between carbon fiber and graphite is like this: Carbon fiber is basically a woven cloth-like fabric that can has a resin-like material poured over it. When it cures, it's stiff. Kind of like those do-it-yourself fiberglass repair kits you can get at Pep Boys, with the fiberglass fabric. Those folds in the sides of Alex's tub make perfect sense to me. When a fabric is pushed into a mold, it's going to wrinkle on the edges.

I think graphite is more of a material, than a fabric and two stage process to create. I think both are used in layers to add strength and stiffness.

But, of course I could be totally wrong. But, that's how I understand those materials.


Last night I found some aluminum front shock towers, milled motor plate, and rear arm carriers made by GPM. Just google GPM RC10 original. They say they're all made for the original RC10. Not vintage parts, but still very cool.

Alex, any plans to market those aluminum RC10 parts?

oh i did it... and i aint sorry about it at all. its just that i've spent soooo much lately on ebay that its seriously beginning to be a problem. it aint taking away from the rent or anything, but it sure as heck aint helping the savings.

i'm gonna try real, real hard not to even look at ebay for awhile. i got enough projects that i can keep myself busy for quite some time.
