I was in search of a good cheap RC for a friend of mine. He is newly married and wants to get into RC not only for himself but also a way to bond with his new step son.
I found what i thought was a complete RC10 on my local Craigslist for what i thought was a good price. $30.

Once i got it home and unpacked it, i may not have. My local LHs thinks the chassis and front nose plate is home made.
I know the rear arms are Andys and it has the 6 gear tranny. The trans needs the idler gears and i think a few beaings.
The chassis needs screws and shocks for sure..

I am hoping you all can tell me if the chassis is aftermarket or home made.

Honestly, I think you did pretty well for 30 bones. That ride would clean up nicely.

i assume these are not common upgrades? Do you think the chassis is too?

They were not "uncommon" upgrades. They just have not been for sale for a long time. Perhaps your LHS guy is younger, and doesn't know.

As for the chassis, lloks like a typical graphite chassis to me, but I don't have much experience in graphite chassis for the rc10. However, others here do.

yes it is. The more i research this car the more i am thinking of pulling it and keeping it for my self LOL.
When i pulled the tranny apart, the 6 gear set up intrigued me.
I have been wanting to get into something different for my off road RCs and this itself might be it. I love vintage tractors and cars and to have a vintage RC would really make me smile..

Who knows maybe i will sell my VXL rustler to my friend instead!

lol yeah I recognized the pic with the spur gear sitting on the chassis and knew I saw it somewhere before. Clean 'er up!

All, it is sooo tempting. You know i think i will. Having Toasted's info helped. I thought i had a basket case..

It's not so bad, I have had worse. Soap, water, and a old tooth brush go along way. I clean all my parts with a ultrasonic jewelry cleaner which I find works very well. I found that this board has some very knowledgeable people that can get you going in the right direction.

that car will clean up nice. every peice of it. Clean and re-dye the parts red. Clean that nose plate up and polish it. Get the rear motor guard for graphite chassis and polishe that tranny plate up. Slap on some correct shocks, and grab some new wheels, and away you go. That roller would look slick.

the chassis was made by raceco (fairly rare). too bad someone felt the need the chop the front end off to attach that hot trick plate.

yeah, that car will clean up nicely. Nothing wrong with it at all, the chop job on the front end looks clean enough.

the only problem you might find is that the nose will be a little flimsy with no support tubes.

You can fit nose tubes on and use RC10 GT (gas truck) nose tube bulkheads bolted to the chassis to stiffen up the front end.

these are already there and supported on the hot trick front end

whoops! didn't even register in my brain.....sorry....tuesday morning.....alot like a monday morning...ugh...

then carry on, no issues, just clean 'er up and run 'er!
