I've had similar results on fiberglass shock towers for the 10 buggy. From what I've read on here, fiberglass needs to be left in the dye for a much longer period of time compared to nylon parts. I haven't tried it yet though. You also may want to find a larger pot to dye the chassis in so it fits in all the way. The half and half treatment will yield inconsistant coloring... 8)

I have had the best luck with getting the dye solution boiling and then let the parts simmer in it. My shock towers only took 15 min. The hotter the better as it opens up the pores of the parts. This is why plastic parts are hard to dye. When you get the dye hot enough the plastic wants to melt.

I put a thin layer of dye in the bottom of a pyrex baking dish and popped it into the oven (I forget what temp, but I think 200-250F),

Watch it closely and flip the fiberglass with tongs now and then. If it has screw holes you can use hardware to elevate it off the bottom slightly. Totally slick.

i put a t cup of salt in a pan with the dye
lay some table knifes in the bottom to keep the parts of the direct heat .then rolling boil for about ten mins then simmer for an hour

then serve up with a sprig of parsley and some fresh black pepper
