Scored a Losi Strike for $30 (Bug body help please)

A fellow racer had this marked $45 and I was looking at it and getting ready to buy it for $45 when he said “30 bucks and it’s yours.”. To which I replied “Add to cart.” . He said he ran one battery thru it, but it doesn’t look like it’s been ran at all. I bought it mainly so a friend of mine who’s into r/c a little and has a couple of cars, but none that fall into a racing class can race. He has 2 kids and a bunch of bills so buying one really isn’t an option for him right now. Plus, I can race a little off road with it. I’m not much into off road, but they get great turnouts here in mod and stock. I have plenty of batteries and electronics. I have a body that’s almost like new from my Slash before going to the STP shell. Anyway, I was pretty excited to get this for $30.

To be honest I’m not very familiar with them either. Just knew they qualified in the Corr truck classes. I was very late in giving in to the SC truck class. The RTR and toyish qualities of them made me sick, but I’ve been racing my Slash for 6 months and I’ve spent $7 on parts(rear axle carrier). Huge fun and I know my friend will love oval as much as I do. They are big, simple, tough and most of all fun as hell.

The Strike was a flop partly due to it not meeting ROAR SCT rules (too long), but for not really being able to contend with the other trucks on the market. It's still a GREAT score for $30. Bash the heck out of it!!

Our track is pretty loose on rules. If you bring it we'll find a class for it. One of the things I love about the racing scene here. Plus the giant cupholders make it great for endurance races!

Anyone know of a Bug body that will fit this well? I know some of the Slash bodies don't line up very well without big cuts. This has been collecting dust since I got it and I thought a Bug basher would be fun. I searched quite a bit on the net, but I'm also an idiot so I may have missed something obvious.

I have a stadium truck body from Dahms that should look nice on this.
It's not a buggy body but at least it's narrower, so it won't rub the tires, and probably lighter too.

I think it's called Commando Xl and it was meant for 1/8th buggies

Sorry, I meant a Volkswagen Beetle body. May just be a U.S. Expression. Thanks though.

I'm sure I can get a different 1/8th VW body to fit, but I'd like to use the stock body mounts and not have to hack up the body. A stock Slash body for instance is not a smooth fit at all so I'm assuming VW bodies made specifically for the Slash would have the same problem. I'm hoping someone knows of a real instance where a particular VW body was used on a Strike. If not, I'll just order one and figure it out from there.

how bad is the slash body on lining up? Is it the wheel wells or body mounts? I had one come with my 4x4 slash that never got run and its sitting here collecting dust too...

You might need some extended body mounts, but you should be able to get a slash body to work on it.

Did it come with the stock esc? That was the best part of that truck. It's got a lipo cutoff on it.

If you put some brushless power in it, be careful. They like to pretzel the dogbones. Set the slipper loose. They came out with updated dogbones later in it's life.

It shares most of the parts with the Losi Highroller.

The front wheels are a wierd fitment.

I think extending the body mounts will work if no other body is available. Thanks for the High Roller info too. I have no problem with Losi, but I don't follow it very closely either, so I don't know much on their modern stuff. In fact don't be surprised if I forget to ever check back here. I rarely even go in a lot of the forums. Losi included.
