Re: ESC under $17 shipped
looks way too sketchy
if your going to go cheap, the hobbywing line of esc's and motors are the best bang for your buck.

Re: ESC under $17 shipped
A lot of ESCs are built "off-shore" nowadays...
Regarding the Hobbywing stuff, they are great. They have a smaller footprint and a lot of combo deals come with the programming card, which ESC companies here try to sell you as an aftermarket...
Give the EZRun V2 a try, it's a great ESC. I was skeptical at first too, but after using the first one, I bought a second one for another ride because I was so happy with it...

I was surprised to find almost overwhelming positive feedback on the EZRun combos. See below for 61 pages (at least by this afternoon, I read every page) of discussion on the EZRun gear:longboardnj wrote:how are the ez runs for set up??? i want to get an esc, do the set the remote /esc 1 time by pushing the button do the flashing lights thing and be done... do you need to use the little box to set it up,and do you need to set it every run??

The negatives were mostly from goofs who didn't read the manual or tried using sensored motors on sensorless ESCs or not choosing the appropriate components for their needs.
The setup is possible without buying the box, but some of the kits include it anyway. You can configure everything with button presses, but the programmer box apparently is even easier. You should be able to set it and forget it, just like ESCs of old.
