Rare TQ10...

Well, here is a TQ10 project I have been working on. Picked it up off of the bay a while back. It was in pretty rough shape when I got it. and decided to go in a little different direction, as the front of the chassis was pretty shredded. I decided to narrow the front as far as I could and still use the stock suspension mounts (you can see they are pushed as close together as possible). This allowed me to get into fresh/good material on the chassis, but would require revised suspension parts and geometry. So, I designed some front arms to increase the track width back to standard. I wanted something that looked similar to stock, you can see this in the webbing and outlines. Then I re-designed the front tower to match the new arm geometry. I cut them on my CNC, and hand finished the corners. One nice thing about this change was that the stock steering geometry fits the longer arms alot better than the original. All in all I was pleased with the way it turned out. I fillled the chassis holes with black epoxy. Block sanded, and then refinished with West Systems clear epoxy as a clear coat. Then block sanded again w/600 grit wet or dry to give it a nice even matte finish. The suspension components have been thoroughtly cleaned, and peroxided. and most of the fasteners have been refurbished (i am going to post my process at some point). I really like the project more than I thought. Unfortunatelly, I am going to have to put it on the bay, as I am out of work for a couple of days. It will go up as soon as I am done here

Nice project.
How did you make the front arms? can you elaborate the process a bit?

Well, basically I "stretched" a stock set of arm measurements in CAD. Then I cut them out on my cnc. I used the stock arm measurements as a basis, and widened them to compensate for the narrow front end. I would bet they are similar to the RPM worlds arms, but I have none to verify. I did just the opposite with shock tower. I took a stock tower, and cut out the amount needed to narrow it to the proper width. Then copied those measurements into cad, and then to CNC. Some of the process can be seen here -

Sweet ride. It's a shame you have to let it go. When you get back to work you should try and make some rear ARM mounts

This looks awesome Jeff, i love the front arms. It looks like this can be a very cool runner.

Thank you. I think, it could be a great runner. The only thing I would change is to put a stealth on it (if I were going to keep it

). And maybe a rear motor guard like the graphite editions had. -Jeff

That is awesome. All I have in my garage is a bike and a bunch of Junk surrounding it.

Good! Glad to see it got to you in good shape. That build has inspired me to look at modifying one of my tub chassis racers to see how it works compared to the original front. Someday soon... -Jeff
