Picked this one up yesterday along with almost another full car in spares. Going rebuild this up totaly stock.

total stock; so boring... except for some cars = like this one.

I now have 3 of these cars. One totaly modified, this one will be totaly stock and another will be modified aswell.

I have a couple of stockers and one that I run. I would like to see pics of your modified one. Trying to get ideas on what to do to mine. I did put in belt tensioners for front and rear and bearings, but steering is still too sloppy. Here is a pic of one of my stock ones.

RAd...I'll be checking this out as I have a Bulldog on the way as well that'll need some work getting her back to snuff.....

only in the eye of the beholder! originality certainly fetches very good money and is very appealing to most.
just like real muscle cars, factory pulls the big coin and its cool to know its untouched from original

This a a very unique car. The problem is that in stock form, this car can hardly even run a line straight! Modification was a must

I would have to agree with that Tiger1. I have a runner that my hornet would run circles around. But 4 wheel drive (belt drive) with 4 wheel steering and air shocks.... Too cool.....

I got this car in 1985 because:

(1) it was the cheapest 4wd in that summer,
(2) it requires the least number of ball bearings, which also make it cheaper,
(3) it has air shocks, I hated those old school oil shocks that is between leaking and refilling all the time, and Tamiya CVA was only release later that year in 1985 and Kyosho gold shocks also came later but were beyond my budget.

Apart from that, when this car is modified properly, holy smoke it flies!!

It easily outrun all those other 4wd cars, including 834B, hotshot or even optima. Now that is cool!

Also, I thought 4WDS was a great idea, that was the time that even Honda was making 4WDS in their real cars. Well, in a 1/10, it became a perfect formula for dis-drivability

I quickly disable the rear steering after I failed to impress my girlfriend with the car...

The drive train was great though. I never experience any belt slippage even after a good summer of hard running on a closed to daily basis. I remember opening up the chassis after the summer and found the inside was in perfect condition!!

I remember these cars from my earliest experience with r/c. Although I never did get to race one back then I have spent a lot of time on my first car a couple of years ago. I drilled out the diff pulleys and now run 4mm tungsten diff balls, locked out the rear steering and replaced the outer hubs with Kyosho Optima items. A brass steering rack that carries through the trans housing was given to me by an old racer a while back. This works very nicely.
The drive train is very smooth and efficient in my opinion but anything more that a modern stock motor and you'll experience some belt slippage. I've also developed my own belt tensioners which to-date have worked well.
I find the car to be reasonably quick in and out of turns and holds an impressive speed down the straights.
I really like the car I've modified but I'd also like a stocker to sit next to it on my shelf. Atleast then it's obvious just how far I've come.

Ive been busy stripping the new Bulldog's and my old one down for full rebuilds.
