$30 to spend this month...but what parts to buy?

Hello all

This is my first post.

A month ago I brought a 1990 team (B chassis, PINK!) which im doing a resto on.

Ive got a budjet of $30 (or £20 in my money :) ) to spend on parts this month.

I was thinking of some new rims as shes sitting on 2's at the mo but now ive seen some old is new stuff going on I think this is the direction I need to head in, tho I want to keep her looking quite standard, but I like the idea some b4 parts just to help with spares in the future as I intend it to be my race car next season.

The only mod it seems to have is an RPM steering system (where the servo attaches)

Where to begin?

Cheers for any advice

liam

Have you decided what's worth saving on the chassis or do you want to replace everything? Current budget aside, how much do you expect to spend to get it to where you want it to be? I would get suspension bits myself, but wheels and tires are good too.

If you can, a pic would be very helpful.
For me, bearings and cvd's make a smooth ride.

Hi and thanksfor the replys!

If i can keep the budjet for the work under $100 Ill be quite happy. Havingtrouble resizing the photos i took but ill getem up asap

So far the work ive done includes

Painting a new shell really badly
Shock rebuild
Full gearbox clean and "rebuild"
Replaced lots of rusty screws
And a general good clean
new clutch disk and spring and screw

she has full bearings all round, although I think some new turnbuckle "cups" is a great idea, do b4 ones fit?

Ive also ordered some black 5 spoke 2.2's from a company here in england. their designed to fit over the standard axels.

why would i want to buy new rear hubs?

I could do with a new stealthtranny case as the casing is abit threaded and is spliting where it screws to bottom of chassis

This is my first rc10, always wanted one

happy racin!

the obvious questions i have not seen yet is "what does it need?" and "what are you planning on doing with it?"

the b4 ball cups will work but i like the rpm ball cups a little better myself.

if you will be running or racing it i would look into picking up some chassis tape to help protect the chassis from getting scratched. http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=12309

beyond that just keep the shock seals fresh so they don't leak and save the rest in case you break something.

id just wait for secondhand bargains on ebay to make it a more reliable car if your going to race. get a list together from all the opinions and we can try to find stuff for you over time.

I intend to start racing her in the next 6 months. It may take that long to get spares as im soonto be a student on a student budget! It seems their is little 2nd hand bargains about in the UK for these cars, their very rare.

It does defo need anew gearbox housing, cant find one yet. The rpm stuff would be purchased for wishbones etc. And it has no gear cover.

It seems quite a narrow car, which makes me think it should turn quite shape into the corners? Ive never driven one tho and after a 15 year break ive returned to racing with a losi xx which i piucked up for -$75 (sold some gear that came with it! :D )

Heres some pics off her anyway....a beast! Got some reedy stickers for her :)

I like new rear hubs to keep my axles tight. A lot of energy is transfered through the rear hubs and the bearings can become a little loose in the nylon hub. If your rear hubs and wheels feel tight then you're fine.
Good luck, she is a beast 8)

Quick update!

I have overspent abit this month. Had to order 4 new berings for the front wheels because the wheels i had were odd. Have also got the new ball cups sorted too.

Question

What are the options (easy) for the rear tshock strut because the standard has only two mounting holes for the suspension and could be quite limited for tuning?

Or are these fine for most uses?

Seems like my mate who im getting back into racing will be using her for our winter series. Im not jelous honest! :P

cheers

Hey welcome to the board Liam, the car looks great! Nice to have the rare pink chassis (presuming its factory paint  )

I've just started racing my RC10 after a long break from off road - & like you its the first time i've ever driven one of these old beasts! You'd be suprised there seems to be quite a following for racing these cars in the UK - I turned up a couple of weeks ago at a local club meeting... & there was another guy racing a nice Team Car (he was also able to sell me a new replacement foam gearbox gasket too, which was a bonus!)

Don't be too afraid to order parts from overseas (mostly US) I've got most of my parts off ebay from the States or from Tower Hobbies who still sell a few of the old RC10 parts (though not gearbox housings i'm afraid) I now keep getting posted their catalogue stuffed full of RTR rubbish  LOL!
