Theres a guy on eBay that sells heavy duty ones. Its basically just some threaded rod with ends but it saves a lot of hassle.

I'd also suggest a Kimbrough servo saver instead of the stock one: http://www.kimbroughracingproducts.com/servo-savers.html

Are you running the throttle servo? I was not running it in mine cause I ran an ESC. That leaves you with an extra servo slot in the front of the chassis. I screwed my steering servo down right in the middle of the chassis using the existing holes with the servo slightly slanted in relation to the length of the chassis. It centers the servo much better than stock, so you don't need to have a long and short arm. I used a Kimbrough servo saver as well. Remove the ballstuds in the spindle and drill and tap it for 4-40 thread. Use AE ballstuds in the spindles and servo saver and then go buy you a cheap pair of AE steel turnbuckles and use the newer AE black ball cups. Bump steer goes away for the most part, and you have adjustable tie rods too. I can get you some pics if you like, LMK.

unfortunately for me the weak link in the steering seems not to be the thin rods, but the axles that won't stay pressed into the knuckles. :?
I think I am going to try brandons upgrades though when I have it all apart.
how hard is it to drill and tap the back end of the axles

If you have a drill press it is no problem. Or a vise with a cordless drill. (I had to use a pair of pliers when I did mine  )

Thanks for the info, i centered the servo and used ball style ends and heavier tie rods. Now the only thing that i need to do is finish making my alum. a arms(the plastic ones have A LOT of slop), and try and find a better set of gears for it since i'm running 1/8th scale buggy tires. I'll have pics up of what i have done so far pretty soon, just look for "monster frog project" if you want to see it.
