New (used) Rc 10 #6010 Score!

I picked up a complete RC10 #6010 with Futaba Radio, spare parts and charger for cheap the other day.
Looks like the only parts added were front and rear A-Arms, some larger front truck tires, and the Truck body mounts. Only thing I need is a battery. I think the stock (undyed) parts are in the grab bag.

Not sure if the charger, motor, trx, rcx, esc are any good. I can't find the male "f" shaped RCX power plug.
And several plugs (battery/Esc) are worn out.

The diff is sorta locked (posi-like), and the only front wheels are some wallowed out Truck rims.

I will probably sell off some of the white parts, since I am not going "Vintage", and maybe just get it working.

It's been 20+ years since I was into RC.

Nothing like a 40+ year old guy excited about a 20 year old "toy".

So now it's on the lookout for parts.....

My dad's old college roommate lives in California, he's in his 60s and he gets excited by a 30 year old toy. She is from Bulgaria, I forget her name.

This one is wife #3. The last one was German, he was her 4th husband, and she has a daughter with a 5th guy who was still married to another woman, who accepted the girl like a stepdaughter. He also has at least a couple dozen collector cars; a Lagonda, 6 or 7 Packards, some Italian cars like Alfas, etc. Most all in pre-restoration condition. He's bought several cars while on trips to France that his wives at the time didn't know about, and he had to wait until he could figure out a way to get them over without them knowing. He's got a great collection of NIB model cars and memorabilia that I'm dying to see. I know at least one NIP R/C car, a Tamiya Renault Alpine.

To quote the webcam scene in American Pie, God bless the Internet; what would guys like us have done to find older 'toys' like this 20 years ago? You'd have to go to conventions and shows and stuff, and you'd probably make out OK in a bigger city, but you might be stuck if there isn't much going in your area.

I know he mentioned the name of the rear arms, but I really did not pay attention, since the weren't broken....

The fronts are wider aftermarket too....

Pulled the trannny apart tonight... found some trash in there, might be worn plastic, shaved from the case or old gears..... When I reassemble, I will check for slop.
What kind of diff lube?

Can I use Vaseline?

No! You need Associated Stealth lube or a good type of ball diff grease . You run the tranny dry and only put the lube on your balls! (Mind out of gutter Reg!)

I used Tamiya Cera-Grease in my 10T ball diff (haven't run it yet)? Bad choice?

I am 2 more RC's down the road toward the Darkside after picking up the RC10 #6010 over the summer (and I have not even tested the servos/Novak ESC/motor yet). I still need to ditch the rear tires mounted on the front for some dirt skinny fronts and rebody it.

#1 - bought RC10 #6010 "A" Gold Pan (drilled chassis) off Craigslist
  • Front Andy's Arms
    Rear Aluminum A&L trailing arms
I also tore the tranny down, cleaned it, greased the diff balls.

#2 - bought from a friend with a broken steering arm cheap.
Stampede Xl-5 brushed 550 motor - upgrades
  • front RPM caster blocks,
front RPM steering arms & bearings (bearings from Nitro kit)
rear RPM axle carriers & bearings (bearings from Nitro Kit)
    Integy Aluminum Nitro front bulkhead

I tore down the tranny, cleaned and regreased it - it's got the metal gears including the idler and bearings and the slipper clutch disc... that was cool.

#3 - LOSI XXXT + stuff - bought from a different friend cheap too!
It's a full-on race truck...bushed motor - might be a MF2 - NO paperwork
  • front/rear Graphite XXXT arms
    Graphite Chassis
    full bearings
    3 3800 6-cell battery packs
    Deans Connectors
    2.4 GHZ radio
    Couple nice peak chargers

I'm gonna have the RC10 and The Stampede use the Traxxas Connectors and leave the hi-end stuff Deans for the XXXT. Wife and kids think I'm crazy but I really miss running the RC's. Wait till they want a turn.

I can help identify the XXX-T. Is the transmission grey or black? Also do the a-arms have 2 holes at the end for mounting the hubs? That's the easiest way to identify between the MF and MF2. The MF2 has a grey transmission and the newer variable length arms. Or it might just be a RTR that someone put a lot of graphite on.

Here is a pic of the rear of the XXXT.
The tranny is grey and the arms are Graphite as well... the front has extra holes..
