Transmitter Surgery - yea or nay?

Firstly, sorry for the long post...

I have a Futaba 3PDF on 27Mhz that I bought new in Japan back in 1998 when I was stationed there. Well about 6 months ago the thing totally crapped out. So I disassembled it looking for something simple that maybe I could fix, like a loose connection or something. I removed the modulation board without damage, but in the process of removing the main pcb, i cracked it.. game over. So I watched ebay for a few months, saw a few come and go, for more than I wanted to spend, but finally pick one up, only its on 75Mhz. Soo, I'm thinking about swapping out the board in the new xmitter for the 27Mhz board from the old one. It seems like a simple three wire soldering job.

The main reason to do this is I already own several 27Mhz receivers and two crystal sets. I don't have any 75 receivers or crystals....

What do you think?

Go for it, what you got to loose at this point. IMO 2.4G is the way to go.
