Here's My 'Ten

Post by losiXXXman »

If anyone can tell me how to hijack ebay photos before the auction gets to old, I can get some as received photos. Anyhow, got it for 35 shipped. The chassis looked like part of it had sat in something caustic for awhile and had a horrible de-anodized patch. Same for the nose plate. All parts were fairly well white, but I did the peroxide for eight hours anyway. Here she is in primer.

Since its an A chassis, I drilled centered holes for the battery cup, and actually moved them forward a little. I think I'll be able to use a foam piece for a little bit of weight bias adjustability. I also opened up the countersinks so that the screws would all sit flush. No fun without a proper countersink bit. This weekend I put down two coats of blue, and two light coats of clear to bring out the shine and hopefully protect it somewhat. I am going to run her so I know it won't stay pretty for long. Here she stands now.

So did you clear the inside of the tub straight over the primer? It makes for a unique look, that's for sure!

I deliberated for a couple days on what color to do this in. I ended up using pactra blue streak for lexan. Just had it lying there in the garage, and knew I wouldn't use it again on a body. As for the interior, i ran out of the blue, so I sprayed it with some "hamered" metallic grey, and didn't clear coat it. I'm reaaalllly anxious to get this running, but the big challenge is going to be the tranny. The six gear bottom end is complete, but it has no top shaft, diff tube, diff pinions, no nothing. With some of those parts going for $35 on ebay, it may be awhile...unless some kind members can help me out for a little less. I am watching the 'bay for six gears because I have seen some go for pretty cheap complete. Cannot wait til I can get BST access, that's for sure!

Yep, your best bet is to pick up a complete junker on the bay. Also watch craigslist as they pop up cheap from time to time.

I wish I could find something on craigslist. Our local one sucks. I see quite a few Tmaxxes and Nitro Rustlers, but rarely anything of real interest. I did see a clean complete blackfoot a couple weeks back, asking $30 amazingly. I tried to steal it from him and offered $20 as it was all I could do at the time, guess it was too much of a lowball. Should have asked if he could hold it for a week.

Bunch of sixgear trannies on the bay this week, unfortunately my paypal is ZERO, and bank account is not much better!!!

You want some? I didn't paint on it. My father-in-law brought about ten of them to us on a recent trip. The dozen he brought two years ago are taking up space in my attic currently. The do work well for storing various projects.

I'm trying to decide how to finish this out and am looking for some input before I buy more parts that commit me to something... I don't care for the short arms, and was lucky enough to win a set of team arms on the bay this evening, still need a team shock tower, but that is not in short supply. Anyway, my dilemma is what to do for wheels/tires. Here's my thoughts:

I'm either going to do it with something stock/period correct looking for a team car like the Phoenix rims/ B3 rims/ duratrash? rims.

OOORRR

I'm going to go "old is new" and put something more modern on it. Speccifically I'm thinking Losi 5 spoke XXcr rollers. So to do that I'll get either XX or XXX spindles and carriers, probably XXX VLA ones to not lose any width. I'm thinking losi VLA hubs in the rear as well using the inner hole to push the wheel out and not sacrifice width. Probably need a B4/B44 CVD setup for that.

What wuold you guys like to see? Not that all of it hasn't been done 1000 times before...

It's always odd the way ebay works. Couple weeks ago I lost a set of team front arms when they bid to over $20 shipped. ....This week I won a set for $4.04 shipped. Okay, they are a little more yellow, but I have faith in Peroxide!

I've made my decision. Since I'm going old school with the six gear for this car. I'm going to stick with B3/Phoenix BX/ Duratrax style 2.2s. Got some more parts in a trade (Thanks Anthony). I have cleaned up the six-gear and she spins well and the diff is as smooth as she's going to get. I also decided that I will disassemble the car, make some cuts on the chassis, nose plate, and motor plate, and I may respray it too.

Can someone tell me, what spurs can I use? Would typical pan car ones work? I want to go to 48p externally. I only have one 32p pinion...

Thank you, but no. I have enough of my own. The kids use them for boxes and "projects"

Some more progress has been made on my car. Got some shoes in the mail yesterday, still gotta get some socks (wheels). Also have to order a body and figure something out for nose tubes. I made some out of fiberglass rod that was laying around the garage, but it splintered when I threaded the front screws in. I switched out my rear shocks to some kyosho golds that I had, I like the feel of the rear end a lot better with these shocks plus, I didn't have to trial and error spacers to limit travel on the 1.32 Associated shocks.
