jus picked this up at a yardsale for ten bucks i hooked up a battery and put in a reciever and it ran like new well almost the steering servo was a lil dry so i tore it apart and re lubed it...im jus curious if anyone can tell me the year and model...or about...thanks for your help

that is a rustler, I agree with the late 90's as the likely timeframe based on the electronics.

are the new rustler parts sumwhat compatible...example if i broke an arm or tower or anything would i be able to get something that mite work with a lil modifying???thanks again

I'm gonna say mid 90's,possibly late 90's.Your truck has the xl-1 speedo,so it is one of the earlier releases.They initially had an msc,then the xl-1,xl-5,and the newest vxl brushless version.Fortunately all the parts are still interchangable between all the Rustler models.Most of the newer trucks use gray plastics for the chassis,trans cases,bulkhead,etc.Aside from that,the only thing that has really changed is the electronics and the newest xl-5 and vxl models use all steel internal trans gears and the Revo-style slipper clutch.

I just gave one of these away to my daughter's friend so they could run together. I raced it for a couple years-- the parts are now in grey (as noted) and the only major difference is the solid plastic upper links and the transmission was changed slightly to the Magnum 272. The diff is still the same in the Slash (and others) as well as output yokes, half-shafts, etc. Traxxas has made a killing on these molds.
Oh, and the axle bearings are probably 5x8... you can get housings that will run 5x11 bearings and I highly recommend that you do.
It is a very durable truck-- have fun with it!

Good point on the bearing sizes.I forgot they used to have 5x8's (most likely bronze bushings).You're definitely gonna wanna replace those tiny things.

I'm not sure what you mean about the Magnum transmission though.I thought the trans cases and internals were the same on all Rustlers?I know all my older trucks like the Blue Eagle and SRT all used the Magnum trans and same gears as the Rustler(aside from the ball diff).I wasn't aware that they ever used anything different throughout the 90's and up.

Another difference in the truck in question is that it quite possibly doesn not have a slipper clutch.That's an easy enough upgrade though.

There were lots of revisions over time:
trans case was changed at the motor mount to have cooling fins,
Metal diff gears in some of the newer models(brushless only?)
The spur setup was changed from a solid mount to a slipper to a newer style slipper.
most parts are basically interchangeable-mix and match.

good truck @ a good price....
