I'm trying to figure out a way to get a motor guard on this build. The A&L transmission lets the motor hang out farther than the stock Ultima transmission. The Option House guard can be made to fit but it bumps up against the motor. So there's no breathing room in the event of a rear-end collision. Has anyone tried to fab up a motor guard for this Ultima + A&L combo? Or does anyone have any ideas?

i used a rc10 graphite motor guard for mine, holes had to be drilled a bit but it fit under the rear arm mounts

That's a great idea. Did you fit the guard into the notch under the rear hinge pin holder or did you just bolt it underneath?

bolted underneath, sanded a little on belt sander

and if u need one let me know, dont go crazy looking, i have like 2-3 black ones left, just let me know.

I wonder if Will this change the anti-squat?

I'm thinking if you remove the top brace (the one that goes from the tranny to the rear bulkhead) and wrap a piece of kydex from the bulkhead all the way down and around the motor. Maybe dremel out the rear pin support to allow it to slip in there, kinda like how the Option house rear guard goes in. I love these trannies, but can't understand whi they never offered a bumper for it.

i tryed the kydex myself, it just turn into a mess and burned myself with a heatgun twice while doing it lol. i bought a peice of aluminum from home depot but never had the patience to make it lol.

with the associated peice, you could dremel it to fit without changing antisquat too much...

If you can find a piece of metal tube about the same radius as what you need to get from the top brace to under the rear arm brace, just heat the Kydex in the middle so you have somewhere to grab it. Then just lay it over the tube to get a nice smooth radius and let it cool. That should work, that's at least how we do things of that sort at work.

I did it with a regular hair dryer and the side of a ruler, it actually worked great.

Ok, I have some questions then:

Where does everyone get their kydex from?

What is the thickness that I should probably use?

Can you score it and snap it to get a clean line?

I kind of figured that a heat gun or hair dryer would work the best for shaping.

Search the web or D Bay for Kydex or thermo plastic. Get something like a .093” thick material and use a hair dryer to shape. It will snap when score but not always get a clean line, I would cut it this way and then sand it down.

Ok, I think I found something that will work. What is it? It's a motor guard for an Ultima Sport...the cheap version of the Ultima RB Type R. It's going to require a bit of trimming on the rear hinge pin block but the end result should look OEM.

Here's where I am so far. I need to drill a hole in the motor plate. "BLASPHEMER!" And maybe make a little arm to connect to the side of the transmission.
