What rims do I need to run modern 2.2 tires on my optima mid?

It depends
Optima mid uses the same offset in the front as in the rear that means that they used rear offset rims in the front so buy rear rims and if you want narrow front rims just cut off the outer part of the rim. Or you could just buy narrow kyosho front but then youre car will be narrower in the front due to the offset.

the cool thing is that you still can buy the rear hpi super stars and just cut them down to fi narrow front tires I have done that.

remeber to buy rims for the ZX5/rtr not fs/sp due to that they will be even more narrow with those du to even deeper offset.
