first airbrush paintjob in a long time

Post by markt311 »

I have a big race this weekend so I painted up this Proline 09 Silverado this week. I masked it all off with tape, old school. It's not the greatest job in the world, but it's my first try with an airbrush in a few years. I found out after I was 90% done with this that I pretty much copied Jammin' team driver Matt Gosch's paint scheme... whoops

This is on my new Jammin' SCRT10, this thing is scary fast, it has a Novak HV4.5 motor in it and a 5000 30c battery.

I like it. Nice work on the yellow flame outlines.

Thanks for the compliment. I don't like how the black shadowing around the flames came out, I think for the next one I might try silver or white.

And yeah the yellow pinstripes came out nice but what a pita to cut them out freehand! I'm not an artist at all, I searched google images for "hotrod flames", when I found one I liked I printed it out and enlarged it on a photocopier. Then taped them to the inside of the body and traced them. I had liquid mask, but I didn't have enough time to apply 5 or 6 coats, so I layed out tape and cut it the way I used to.

It was easier when I used to paint, I had a girlfriend who was an art major, so I let her draw the outlines for me :D

I think I might upgrade my airbrush to a gravity feed style, probably an Iwata. I like my Paasche, but I think technology has progressed since I got that 8 years ago.

Looks great Mark! A lot of us would kill to be able to do that. What's up with the big toe in that picture though.
