How many RC10s (Ali Pan) were produced??

Post by DerbyDan »

Wasn't sure whether to put this in the RC10 buggy section?... But hey, does anyone out there in Vintage RC10 land know how many RC10 kits were produced, starting from the original gold pan up to the last of the CEs & Worlds Cars?

It always amazes me when I look on ebay (especially in the US) Just how many complete RC10s & Spares are being offered at any one time. Even NIB kits or barely run cars come up quite frequently.

I was remember speaking with Cliff once about it, and I seem to remember it was an almost absurd # like 1 million-ish, of the various versions of the pre B2 cars. God I wish my memory was better. I thought it was outrageous, but then he explained to me that racers make up a very small (less than 2 percent) portion of our hobby, that combined with world wide distribution and repackaging (TQ10, Yokomo ) made for high #'s. So the amount you see on race tracks is vastly multiplied by the time you get out to regular public distribution. I would like to see factual #'s though. -Jeff

Jay Dub - I think you hit the nail on the head - where as we tend to think of RC10s as a serious racing buggy, generally most were sold to people as fun- park runners..... the kids in the Dead Pool film being a typical example.

I think this senario relates more to the US home market where - confronted with the choice between a japanese Tamyia or Kyosho or the sleek looking 'Gold' chassis of the 'All American' RC10 - the buyer would be tempted by the latter :)

Back then the RC10 would still have been a very expensive 'Toy' - epecially when you consider how much a RTR B4.1 is now.

I remember when I was little I couldn't believe how much they cost and you still had to buy the electronics, paint, and assemble the whole thing.

I wasn't little (27) when i bought my first one and the sticker shock damn near killed me. The to add insult to injury I had to spring $70 loose for bearings!

I think a better question than how many were produced would be: "How many of them does this community (members of this forum) currently own?" I bet that's quite an interesting number!

Well there's 1536 members as I type - of those, you could assume all own/owned at least one RC10, the majority probably own more than one as complete cars.... then think of those in bits/parts - I think you could make an assumption that each member accounted for two cars each - being that alot of the main contributers own multiple cars yet some of the members would have moved onto pastures new & maybe no-longer own their cars.... so I guess theres about 3000 cars amongst us

I don't own a single Associated part......

you know what the root word of assumption is, lol.......

I do not believe there are nearly that many here. But I could be wrong. Many Losi guys (ahem), Cat guys, Marui, Kyosho, Tamiya and TYCO guys are here as well.
35 years of RC and still broke!

Wasn't the DeadPool kids playing with a car painted like Jay Halsey's ?

Maybe we should start a "how many RC-10s do you own?" thread?

I own 3 RC-10s.

My first RC-10, One I bought from e-bay a couple years ago, and my Whats old is New, built from parts.
