Hey guys, I was running my TA03F drifter with a 5.5T brushless/60A ESC a few days ago, and the steering and throttle started to cut in and out. I pulled the car up, turned it off and back on again, and *pop*- a little puff of smoke comes out of the capacitors. I cut the heatshrink off and I have blown the earth-sided capacitor and the tiny little rectangular thingy are both toast. has anyone had this problem; did you fix it, and if so what do I need to get to fix it?

Any help would be great, I dont want to have to replace a near new ESC...

well, it is very hard to determine what tha part was. It could be probably one of 2 things.

either a tantalum capacitor, or possibly a diode. If the remnants of the part look like they were black plastic, and the leads looked like they came out and wrapped down the body, then its probably one of those 2 devices.

alternately, if there are any markings on the board, they could indicate what the part is/was. if there is a designator, you'll see Cxx for capacitor, or Dxx for diode. if you see a '+', then a capacitor. if you see a line, and possibly a triangle, then a diode.

not sure why that happened other than an excessive voltage.(forward, or reverse, depending on the type of part it was). If you remove the remnants, and power the unit up and it still works on the bench, you can replace it and be on your way, otherwise, something else might be fried as well.
