sKott's RC10 Team Car Rebuild ***1st Post***

Hello to all… I’m sKott and I have always had to have something to piddle with. Nothing too major, but I need to have something to build to keep my sanity. Back in the early 90's I bought and built a RC10 Team car and had a blast with it. The only issue was it after I built it I wanted to do more. Then the Traxxas Nitro Hawk came out and I said "hey I could do that" and converted my wonderful running RC10 into a hard to control, never wanting to work correctly pile of parts... Ah, youth… Never was good at that “leave well enough alone” concept.

Fast forward to a few months ago, I was rummaging around the garage and found a box of my old RC10 parts. Now this thing has been in what seems to be a thousand pieces for 15+ years and has been moved to 3 different addresses. Surprisingly most of it was still there. A little more digging and I found the original Instruction Manual and I was in business.



To date I have about 90% of it back together and hope to having it running in the next month or so. When finished I plan on letting my 10yr old son take it for a spin. I hope he has as much fun with it as I did. With that said this build is more play and drive oriented rather than a collector’s Item to be put on a shelf.







I have a few more things to find, mainly a correct set of front shocks (it currently sports a pair of Kyosho shocks), a Stealth transmission case and a few other odds and ends. I hope to find these soon. Anyway I wanted to keep track of my progress on this post and hopefully get some tips from other helpful board members.

Welcome! I like the Radioshack computer heatsink, I remember trying to use one myself!- are you missing the entire stealth, or did you just misplace the case?

Thanks, The heat sink was the first upgrade/custom thing I did to it back in the day. I don't know if it really did anything to displace heat but at the time I thought it could not hurt.

I have all of the internals for the stealth Tranny but the case is long gone.

Welcome fellow noob. Your car looks great! Are those Traxxas shocks in the rear? Keep is posted on the restore.

The Rear shocks are original to the Team Car.
Not sure on the red springs though.

One of our members has a 6565 case onEPAY better snag it if ya can,RPM also has a 2.65 case about 20.00 tower hobbies,but sometimes the stock cases are to much. Welcome! JohnnySr

Are you saying you converted your RC10 Buggy to Nitro
Like johnny said the Case might be a bit much when you do find one. The RPM case is still available and all your stealth parts will fit in it.

Yes, I cut a carbon fiber plate and mounted everything to it. I did not use the orig bulkhead and used a traxxas rear shock mount. It was a true mutt. My problem was that it was way too short and did not handle worth a flip.

But I have since come to my senses.

Does it have the holes on the top for the tranny brace?
Can I use my original bearings and gear/top shaft?

The RPM transmission kit uses everything from the Stealth except for the top shaft. It's the RPM’s shaft and gear that results in the change in ratio. It bolts on just like the Stealth.

Thanks for all of the replys. I got the RPM Case in and all of the mechanical stuff is finally together. I hope to have it running this weekend.

So here's my question...
I have my old Futaba 210CB ESC (Purchased in 1993)
I also have my old Dynamite 1400mha battery (Purchased in 1993)
Both were working when it went into storage.

Fast forward to last night. I charged the battery on my old Protech 702 charger and it seemed to take a charge. I plugged everything up. The handheld controller came on, the steering servo worked. the check light on the ESC would blink but the motor would not turn. I then disconnected the battery and "hot-wired" the motor to the battery and it did turn but not very fast.

So, does this mean the ESC is dead or does it have a fail safe so that if the battery is not producing enough volts/mha it will not send power to the motor?
