Tires for Yoke RPS SE
Put an add on the "Wanted" board but figure I ought to try the Yoke expertise here too.
After some tyres to fit 45mm / 1.7" diameter wheels to replace the lovely silver ones currently on my RPS SE Anyone know of any alternative makes that would fit i.e. Tamiya? I was wondering if Hornet rear tyres would look OK but from memory the Hornet had three piece wheels so they might not fit?
Original Losi tyres would be nice, but too expensive & rare, so I'd be happy if someone can point me towards any shops / for sale boards etc with 2 pairs of new/nearly new tyres of roughly the right period style - any suggestions?
Cheers,
Ian

Re: Tires for Yoke RPS SE
Ian- I also posted on your Wanted thread, but now that I see a picture those rears on your buggy look like the CRP 4214 tires. Do they say "Dynamite Racing" on the sidewalls? The pattern is similar to the Hornet, but the Tamiya ones are 1.5".
The preceding contained opinions, beliefs and thoughts that all may not agree with. No offense was intended at any point. Carry on.

Re: Tires for Yoke RPS SE
Civil is right but I bet those are Tamiya's on the back by the looks of the tread and profile. They appear flattened and stretched because 1) they are 1.5 stretched onto the 1.6 rim 2) the internal bead is in the way, prohibiting a flush surface between the flat rim and the tire internal.
Pull all four of those moon rover tires off the rim minichamp and you will see what I mean. A little acetone rub to those fronts and you may be able to clean the silver off? Note those could be 1.6's intended for use on the yoke, or they may have an inner bead too. I can tell you what they should fit once you pull 'em off. You are looking for affordable (un-worn) tires for the shelf right? Maybe those fronts are only salvageable as a runner.
Nice car!

Re: Tires for Yoke RPS SE
The pattern is a little different for the Tamiya tires:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLDW6&P=M
Notice that the Tamiya ones have the spikes aligned in rows, but the CRP ones are staggered. I'd put a wager on those rears being #4214: http://www.rcchopshop.com/crp/4214.html

Re: Tires for Yoke RPS SE
Hi guys, the rears are indeed "Dynamite Racing" tyres and the fronts I believe are the original "Team Losi Racing" tyres for the RPS ( wait to stand corrected on that one).
Yep, just want 4 matching retro styled tyres for the shelf No plan to use the old girl just yet.

Re: Tires for Yoke RPS SE
Civil wins his bet if you take them off and they are smooth across the inside. They should be.

Typing with hands now covered in silver paint flakes, I can confirm the insides of the Dynamite tyres are smooth as can be......
Bet won!
