The last Off-Roader I raced - Losi XXX

Thought i'd share some pics of my Losi XXX - this was the last Off Road buggy I raced, some ten or so years ago  Since then i've only been racing 1-10th touring cars. I can't remember doing any more than just the one season with it (though would have included some UK nationals) Which would explain why its in such good condition.

This car marked a return back to running Losi cars after a spell as a Schumacher driver.... & this car wears the shell colours/design of my (then) new sponsor 'Modeltech', who still gives me assistance to this day :)

The car has just a few choice upgrades including RPM gear cover, blue Trinity rear pivot, full Lunsford pins & turnbuckle kit & machined Team Losi motor mount :D

The XXX a great car and yours has beautiful bodywork I must say. I purchased a XXX brand new in 2000 and still running it today.

Thanks :) I think I got mine around 1999 - I was quite shocked when I realised that Losi's current car is still the XXX (albeit quite heavily revised). I found mine very stable & easy to drive, but I must admit I didn't think it was that much of an improvement over the XX.

That is very nice car, I like the xx wheels on their better. they shouldnt have changed them to the solids, I dont like them at all. I just finished all but paint my brand new BK2 last night. yours looks Just like it except the BK has threadded shocks. yours even has the same motor plate. anyway very nice paint and Car.

I agree with Rick, seems everything these days has dish rims, booooring. I raced my XX a bunch a couple of years ago, got a lot of positive comments on the spokes, guys wanted to know where I got them.

For the XXX some guys are switching back to some of the earlier XXX stuff, the BK2 rear arm/pivot, and the bellcrank steering. Somewhat dependent on the track. Instead of the current CR rear arm/pivot and rack steering setup. But keeping the CR rear hubs with the vertical ball studs.

That’s a sweet example of an early XXX. 8)

I do agree that the five spoke wheels are more appealing to look at but from a durability standpoint they are definitely inferior. I have broken many XX wheels and have yet to even crack a dish wheel.

I'm suprised at that! I'd raced for many years & cannot remember ever seeing either a spoked or a dished genuine Losi wheel fail (these spoked wheels have loads of reinforcement on the inside) I have seen quite a few of the aftermarket wheels break (Fastrax, Ballistic Buggy etc) in both spoked & dished wheel designs. Maybe with the increased speeds brushless has given us has caused such breakages to be more common??

I do run brushless/Lipo setup in my XXX. It may be because here in Michigan it gets cold at times and may cause the wheels to be more brittle, I find that they do tend to crack when its cold out.

I run the xx 5 spoke like yours on my jrx prose and I have beat it to no end and never hurt a wheel. they seem tough enough, you will crack anything in the right circumstances, but over all their strong. I am willing to sacrifice a little strength for some style any day. I really dont like the disc wheels at all. the pro se ones at least has the logo raised on them I like them.
