Kyosho Optima restoration

Post by Electrohacker »

so I got an optima... it was pretty beat (sorry no pics)

I managed to flatten out the metal and reshape a few pieces and since this will be a runner I am satisfied with them. I also replaces the gear caseings since they hold the A-arms in place and were too chewed up. I also replaced the cain as it was too stretched out.

I purchased a reproduction body and worked on a deal to get it painted but the kid lost the driver portion and I'm awaiting a replacement.
I won some decals off a guy from kuwaitt and they look to be re bagged originals.

I still need wheels and tires, but i worked out a deal to get it painted from a guy on scale4x4rc.

hopefully I can take some pictures of it soon. I still have the auction pics, Ill try to post them later, I got to get to class...

I'm about to embark on an Ultima project myself. If I remember correctly, these two cars are somewhat related beyon the 2wd/4wd difference.

there's alot of ways to do it. you can score it with a blade then flex and it will pop out/apart or you can use small scissors or small scissors and a dremal with a small sanding wheel on it to finish the edge. what ever you do, take your time and BE CAREFUL!!! nothin worse then a poorly cut body to make it look all ugly

I think the 2.2 monster truck wheels already make it look bad enough... I really need to find a set of wheels and tires for it.
