what is the best way to paint pin stripe boarders around flames and windows.

I like to paint my pinstripes or outlines last depending on the color. What I like to do is cut out my design leaving room for the outline, then take an exacto and cut inside your first line and leave the pinstripe (whatever width you want), paint everything, then pull your thin pinstripe line and paint it last. Hope that makes sense and good luck.

do you do this with the paint on body mask?

I do not personally use liquid mask. I use 3m blue painters tape. I completely cover the inside of the body with tape, draw the design on the outside as long as it has overspray film, cut out design on inside and paint.

With a 000 Mack pinstriping brush.......

I picked up some 3M blue 1/8" tape at painters supply . I will try that and see what happens .

How well does that blue tape adhere to lexan and how well does it bend to the side without wrinkling?

I have not tryed it yet but i am told you can do sharp bends with it and no wrinkles. It is 1/8" wide so it should work for what I'm trying to do.

I'm still in painting 001 . . But I will give one a try . I am using faskolor paint at least if i screw it up I can wash the mess of with water and start over.

I use 1/16th and 1/8th in fineline tape and my experience with the 1/8th tape is it does not like tight radius turns without some stretching and of course that will distort the width of the tape. I have been using the 1/16th for tight curves.
The pic below shows 1/8th and 1/16th lines. The 8th in the center and the 16th is all the rest of the stripes.

trx450racer174 are you using that tape as a masking tape or are actually pin striping with it?

I am using it as a mask with either blue 3m tape or liquid mask and then coming back in after the paint is done and doing the stripes..
I dont have enough skill to cut clean straight lines in liquid mask so i use the tape.
Here is a side shot of that same body.

and a few more just for reference. All of my bodies stripes i use fineline tape on unless its a real intricate design that i need to cut by hand. I should note that the window frames in the B4 body below are cut by hand with liquid mask.

that's true to an extent. yes, you can do fairly sharp bends and it won't wrinkle. but, if you stretch it a little to much as your doing those sharp bends, it's easy to make the tape narrow. which in turn will give you an uneven stripe width. also, the tape will want to let go around those corners. you need to work the tape around them. do not push it forward as your pressing it down creating the bends.

The reason I ask about the tape is because I'm gonna try and paint a body the same as the boxart from the 80s RC10 buggie and they have 3 stripes that turn up at the back.

Yes i use a Iwata HP-CS with Createx and Faskolor.
