Hey guys. I have a couple of Ultima based builds going. I thought I'd post a few pics. The first one is a buggy that I would have liked to build back when I raced my Turbo Ultima. Originally when I restored my Turbo, I thought of doing this...adding tons of hop-ups but I got kinda nostalgic and restored it to box art...plus a few Option House additions: motor guard and turnbuckles. So far I have a minty-fresh Ultima graphite chassis and A&L Leathal weapon transmission along with several other minty parts. The second build is just a restoration of my brother's Outrage, plus a few hop-ups. He bashed the crap out of it and I'm adding some of the used hop-ups I replaced on my Turbo.

Nice start to a great Ultima build. What arms do you have for the front of the long wheel base chassis?

I haven't decided on front arms yet. I haven't done any measurements yet as I'm trying to figure out how to get 2.2 front wheels all around. I know several have done similar conversions but I'd like to do some of my own research. I like the long wheelbase Ultima chassis too because I think it looks better with the larger wheel/tires.

With Academy griffin parts you're done in no time for the 2.2 conversion

Is that the 1st or 2nd generation Griffin?

first generation: everything looks near identical to the ultima but the bearings are 10X5mm instead of the awkward 8X4 ones.

On the other hand: team crp's adapter to 5mm axles are an easy solution too and could even be simply combined to the academy's wheels

About time one of you guys build one of those chassis!

I got an Ultima Pro XL a while back and gave it a good rebuild, swapped the tranny for a Triumph unit and this thing is awesome to drive. I didn't quite realise just how much longer this car feels when put around the race track but the car is very stable through corners and over rough areas.
As fate would have it Im sporting of all things an Associated Viper shell on this car and I think they suit this car down to the ground.
Im sure you'll have a blast running your Ultima as i do mine.

Yeah, I think the longer chassis makes a difference. It's funny, even the lowly Outrage has the longer chassis setup. I've obtained a set of equalizer shocks too to go with my build. What are you using for front arms on your Ultima?

Im running a set of the PRO XL front arms. These are quite wide and look to be quite heavy duty unlike the later Triumph items which snap like a twig. (I used to race a Triumph back in the 90's).

I own both stock versions of the Ultima Pro XL and Triumph and I was thinking of using arms from one of those cars. Good to know about the Triumph arms. I only have about a dozen runs on my Triumph so I can't say that I've ever really tested their strength. I think I have a source for the Pro XL arms, so I'm trying to work out a deal. I have some shock towers on the way too.

If it helps I am running an 11 turn brushed motor in my car and this thing absolutely SCREAMS! Even with balding rear tyres the car still grips up well in the rear. Im sure its the wheel base that keeps it stable through corners though.
I've always like the Triumph's belt drive trans and it's yet to let me down. I think the trans you plan to run will be just as good if not better than what Im using. The car is a real pleasure to drive.

I've just recently gotten a triumph too and at first sight prefer the triumph transmisson over the A&L. The main reason is the dual pad slipper setup, and secondary larger teethsize on the belt. Downpoints on the triumph transmisson are the non-standard spur and the more likely to bend alu motorplate.

For the slipper: I would like to use a newer spur and pads: like RB5 or B4... can either of you testify if that'd work and what I'd need beside the spur and pads?
