crawler guys
I know very little about the crawling scene but have always wanted a bruiser or hi lift in my collection. While really getting lost on ebay tonight I saw this, thought it was kinda cool looking (aside from the awful body but I'm sure a proline lid would remedy that), and looks like it's a lot of coolness for the money?
Anyone know anything about this???

Re: crawler guys
I really dig how scale the axles look
same seller, different auction, the wheels on this one seem a bit nicer.

Re: crawler guys
i find it odd that the seller mentions nothing about them other than a cut and paste description. if you have 10 of both the 1.9 and 2.2 versions you should know enough about them to list them properly... my suspicious mind thinks the seller knows what it is but wants to try and get the people who dont know much about scales and crawlers...
anyway, thats a komodo truck. its basically a knockoff rc4wd trailfinder chassis, knockoff rc4wd shocks & tires, knockoff rcchannel axles and a knockoff axial trans, and i'm pretty sure thats a knockoff proline body too... i dont know anything about it from personal experience, 90% of me thinks its total crap while the rest of me thinks it has potential with some work and some shorter shocks. you can get that whole thing rtr for less than a pair of the legit rcchannel axles, which themselves arent known for their popularity or durability.
personally, i'd either fork out the extra for a true vintage tamiya 3speed if you want a nice, pretty all-metal rig, or get a tamiya hilift or the axial scx10 if you want something scale that you can beat the snot out of. rc4wd also has some pretty sweet kits. if you want coolness for the money, get this.
one thing to consider is the parts support for that komodo, you break something you are more than likely screwed where with both axial and tamiya you got tons and tons of resources.
heres a post on rcc with alot of pics and the typical rcc-style discussion. i'm sure there are more posts there and on scale4x4rc.org if you search.

heres where to buy it non-ebay.

rc4wd's kits, trailfinder down at the bottom. kinda pricey but dang cool and if & when they mess something up they take care of you.
hua forgot to ship me a set of pre-ordered axles once, and to make up for it he sent me 2 sets. tell me that aint worth a little extra?

Re: crawler guys
Thanks Hoop. I didn't really plan on getting the truck, was just curious about it. if I did get a truck it would probably be the scx10. I've wanted to build a crawler/basher/4wd for a while, basically since I saw that mud bogger/crawler article in car action about a year or so ago (maybe it was in rc driver?) with the waterproof traxxas elec's and the blue proline chevy body. as far as the rc4wd stuff goes, a little rich for my blood for what I want it for, but I do love browsing their site, absolutely beuatiful work!

Re: crawler guys
I agree with Hoopty, it just looks too cheesy and I'd be concerned about support after the purchase.

Tough to justify it right now, but that doesn't stop me from looking.

Ahh, if only it were that easy. New business ventures after a surprise closing of the company where I worked a week before Christmas mean spending is at a bare minimum—and toys are certainly not on that list right now.Halgar wrote:Come on! The thought of waking up with a fork in my neck scares me.
