I think it would be best if I just pleaded no contest…and perhaps asked for mercy…
Have 47 of the first 53 Zappa albums if I remember correctly, a couple CDs for convenience. Some bootleg tapes, interviews, reference books, yada yada. Fortunate to see him a few times.
Obviously not a mainstream act, both due to the complexity of much of his music and his rather intense sense of humor. So many are not aware of the depth and breadth of the musicians he had played with, and the bands that have a connection to him. The lists go on for pages and contain many surprises, from Grand Funk Railroad to The London Symphony Orchestra, just a couple of examples.
And don’t forget Captain Beefheart / Don Van Vliet is an important part of the Bongo Fury album, think I have 9 of 13 or so, an EP, some interviews, and various paraphernalia. Never saw him live, but then not many have.
And you guys think collecting toy cars is a little offbeat….Don’t make a fuss, just get on the bus…

I’ve been racking my brain, trying to remember, not sure, but I don’t recall any collaboration with Paul Simon. I think Art has sang with him at NY shows, wait let me rephrase that, if true Art would be the only one that you would consider ‘singing’. (I’ve frequently claimed Frank was the first rapper, as many of his lyrics are more spoken than sang)
This is the kind of thing that I WOULD HAVE KNOWN 20 years ago, but I am not as involved in music as I once was. I will try to check The Book of Zappaology for sure, as soon as I dig it up.
In any event, Halgar thanks for giving me yet something else to confuse me, and quite possibly embarrass myself over.
