It's been a Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas everyone!
Well it's been a long, long wait, but today I was finally able to give my son (and myself) a Traxxas Slash for Christmas. It nearly wiped out all of my Buggy Champ/Sand Scorcher savings, but it's totally worth it.
Now I can spend quality time with my son in a great hobby that I had neary given up on.
This is hands down one of the coolest & best quality vehicles I've seen produced in years. Traxxas appears to be 1st class.
If the weather's good, we'll hit the local track tomorrow.
Now it'll be Christmas everyday!

Same here.My daughter is 3 and my son is 6 months. My daughter loves the Slash and has run it a few times but she still needs some help. She will only use the throttle or the steering, but not both.I like it better when she steers because she's pretty ruthless when it comes to the throttle.budhatrain wrote: I can't wait til the kiddos are old enough- I have a 3 and 1 yr old.

Cool! My son is almost 5 and has been enjoying RC for a year--I think we need to start a Kid thread if they can have a dog thread!

From what I've seen on YouTube, these trucks are pretty tough.
These trucks look extremely kid friendly!

Since being on this site I have found that I have too many parts and R/C Models. Please help me get rid of them.

My daughter is 2, I'm looking forward to the Christmas or birthday she gets her first RC. Slashes are a ton of fun.

Re: It's been a Merry Christmas!
Very cool! My kids each got a Slash (Douglas Amsoil and Welchel special editions) as well as a re-re Lunchbox to build over the winter. They are 7 and 9, but even my 3-yr-old niece and 5-yr-old nephew have tried my Slash several times and have yet to break it!! I'll try to post some pics later this week! Merry Christmas and have a blast!!
BTW it's cold as heck (and snowy) here, so we need to hit the indoor track soon!!

Thanks!
Have you run your Slash in the snow yet?
I wish we had snow...(at least for a couple days)...just cold and muddy here. If we could just get the sun to hang around once in awhile so we could dry up some off road areas and bash...
My son is already talking about racing at the local hobby shop track!

Re: It's been a Merry Christmas!
We haven't run in the snow. It's been in the single digits lately. We're going to hit a new indoor track soon. That's one of the reasons for the winter builds here-- it's tough to get outside for any length of time.Diggley wrote:Have you run your Slash in the snow yet?

During February break the kids and I will go to an indoor track in Massachusetts for the whole day-- hang out, have some pizza and play. Last year we brought 7 or 8 buggies and left with 3 intact.

Very nice score man. I love running the slash with my daughter. She can beat the heck out of it and it keeps coming back for more. The slash sucks in the snow in stock form. If you get the proline mohawk tires for the front
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXYPK6&P=OW
and the slingshot for the rear
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXYPK7&P=OW
then its not too bad. You can finish it off with this and really have fun
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXYPP8&P=OW
The only really weak points on the slash are the rear hubs, steering blocks, and shock caps & shafts. Put a limiter on the shocks about 1/8" is all it needs. The pistons come up too far and hit the caps and they pop off and never stay on after that. The Rpm ones are great though. The motor also is weak. It doesn't like heat at all. Definitely does last longer if you do the water breakin method.

That body is so cool it hurts.
I bet it would look great with paddles, almost as cool as a Baja...Even I am starting to get a little tired of all the Baja Bugs running around...well maybe just a little tired...
I've got a set of RPM FT hubs & knuckles set aside just in case.
Both of ours have outer shock travel limiters factory installed, is this a new thing, or are they not enough?
One thing is for sure, a dirt shield for the chassis is a definate. We just ran them down the street the other day and had enought gravel in the chassis' to pave a driveway!
