LowClassCC's Pink, Rpm Loaded, RC10 Racer Build

well after getting started on my wife's rc10 runner and racer builds and my son's rc10 project i figured i would get started on one for myself. this car is being built as a tribute of the rc10 i raced bitd. some of the things i am doing to this one i had done to my buggy back then. yet some of the things this car will have are due to modern tech and the fact that i couldn't afford everything i wanted back then.

out of the other rc10's i have built and am building this one was by far in the worst condition. 4 bent hinge pins.. 4 bent shock shafts.. 1 bent universal shaft. 2 uncompleted hacksaw cuts on the side. basket case, money pit, and p.o.s. would all be accurate descriptions.

i am planning to use this car once complete as a weekly racer. but that will have to wait until i get some real battery packs to replace my collection of 1800 ni-cd packs lol.

well on to business. here is the current mod list for this car. i will update the list and add new pics as time goes on.

This looks really good man. I love all the costume stuff and the mix of Asso and Losi stuff. If it was back in the days when I raced RC10s only I would hate to see any Losi stuff on an Asso car but in reality I think that mixing parts of the top brand cars could make a cooler and maybe better car.
When you get this done it would be cool to see some side by side pics with a regular RC10 and a new B4.

The car is looking pretty good. The pink is really bright and it will definately stand out. I like these builds that are different than the standard car. Nice work

most of us at the track i ran at ran losi parts. losi front stag rib tires and rear x-patterns were the hot setup. on my car bitd i had wanted a graphite chassis but buying one was out of my price range. i had a friend give me a losi jrx pro long chassis that i drilled, and narrowed. i mounted my rpm wide suspension on it and topped it off with a trx-1 buggy body. even with my hybrid i still claimed asso loyalty. back then losi meant cheap parts since the percentage of the locals were losi guys.

now this style rim is what i had ran at one point bitd. the difference was i had the matching fronts that held the bearings. this was before the xx had came out. well i have still been unable to find the fronts. i have found the rears without a problem. but as for the front tires i had to settle for the xx ones. so that is why i went with the xxx axles and steering blocks. well i have learned that i have gained an advantage with this setup over the asso steering and caster blocks.

the rpm front end kit was designed to use the stock tie rods. now the stock tie rods were the same length at the stock arms. but they are shorter than the long rpm arms. this totally messed up the front suspension geometry imo. now with the losi casters having multiple hinge pin points and multiple ball stud mounting points this allowed me to use a tie rod that is just about the exact same length as the rpm long arms. thus improving the front end suspension geometry. i didn't find this out until i started to put the front end together.

now i just wish it was that easy to fix my driving skills.

here's a couple new updated pics for everyone. since the first post i have added the a&l chassis stiffeners. made custom nose brace tubes. installed a battery cup. installed a layer of chassis tape on both sides of the chassis. installed the new front tires.

the one thing i will need to keep my eye on is the front end width. a b4 = aprox 9 1/2".. roar rules allow 250mm or 9.84".. the aprox with of the front of this build is 9 3/4". so i'm legal as it looks right now. i will have to wait until i get the car a little more completed to figure out a more exact measurement, but i think it will all be good.

i was a little concerned if the tires i had bought were going to be race worthy. well as you can see they cane in today. i think they will do just fine. they feel just about as soft as the proline m3's so that part isn't the concern anymore. now lets see how well they do with the micro spacing between the ribs compared to the wider spacing of other front tires people use.

next plans.. hinge pins have been ordered. i bought some 4-40 all thread and plan to make some tie rods for test fitting so that i can get the proper measurements so i can order the proper size turnbuckles. i need to get around to making a screw order so i can replace all of the 8-32 screws on this and my other rc10's.

new parts added!
  • Protech Body
  • Integy Blue Alloy Antenna Mount
i figured out how i wanted the body mounted and got it installed. the rear of the body will be held in place using a blue alloy rc10gt rear body mount. i currently have an old black plastic mount installed so i could go ahead and get everything lined up.

now i do not believe it is at all possible to get the weight down to the weight of a b4. (yes even after all the lightening work done) i have decided to show my fat car pride and paint part of the body up in cow print. i will also add my usual pink with orange in some manner. i guess i should start looking around at some of the different paint jobs to see if i can come up with an idea. :D

thanks. well i got my stock of wire in to make wing wires from and went ahead and got a couple pieces ready for this buggy and my wife's buggy also. but i also decided to get the body painted. i got the body preped and all masked up and dug out the air brush ect. come to find out the fascolor fasescent red (pink i use) was just about empty, as in not enough to get the job done. but with the help of a little white i came up with a usable pink. it is a lot lighter than i'm use to but ohh well.

i am hoping to have this car ready to race by the end of feb. time will only tell at this point but things are looking good.

This car looks sweet! What brand and part number are those front tires? They look reallllly familiar, but can't seem to remember what they are.
